One of my weaknesses are good horror novels and this dystopian novel, written by Rodrigo Garrido, not only met but exceeded all my expectations. This work, which could be considered a short novel for its 69 pages, exposes the horrors of man's darkest nature and all that a twisted conscience and lack of judgment is capable of. The novel is divided into two: "Catacombs to Hell" and "Catacombs to Hell II" (The Specter of the Graf Spee) and "The Sinister Deacon" (Awakening to Sleep), which in turn is divided into X chapters. Under its lyrics one is immersed in a superficial and dictatorial society, where human rights are not only put in the background but do not exist, and where a totalitarian and despotic system reaches unthinkable limits. The protagonist leads us through a series of labyrinthine dreams, which at the beginning seem disconnected, however at the end they unite to present the climax of a twisted and cruel reality, where political, military and ecclesiastical power unite to give a twist to humanity seeking total control and domination of the human being through the "Eugenics" project; submerging society in despair and madness. As a consolation, he presents us with salvation from so many horrors, which is there and possible.
Como ya saben una de mis debilidades son las buenas novelas de terror y esta novela distópica, escrita por Rodrigo Garrido, no solo cumplió, sino que superó todas mis expectativas. Esta obra, que podría considerarse una novela corta por sus 69 páginas, nos expone los horrores de la naturaleza más oscura del hombre y todo lo que es capaz de hacer un retorcimiento de la consciencia y la ausencia de juicio. La novela se divide en dos: “Catacumbas al infierno” y Catacumbas al infierno II” (El espectro del Graf Spee) y “El diácono siniestro” (despertar al sueño), que a su vez se divide en X capítulos. Bajo sus letras uno se sumerge en una sociedad superficial y dictatorial, donde los derechos humanos no solo son puestos en segundo plano sino que no existen, y donde un sistema totalitario y despótico llega a límites impensables. El protagonista nos conduce por una serie de sueños laberínticos, que al principio parecen desconectados, sin embargo al final se unen para presentar el clímax de una realidad retorcida y cruel, donde el poder político, militar y eclesiástico se unen para darle una vuelta de tuerca a la humanidad buscando el control total y la dominación del ser humano mediante el proyecto “Eugenesia”; sumergiendo a la sociedad en la desesperación y la locura. Como consuelo nos presenta la salvación a tantos horrores, que está allí y es posible.
The plot is easy to read but difficult to understand because of its complexity, however in the end everything converges in an extraordinary way. The facts are presented in a raw and explicit way, where terror is translated in every word and horror reaches the reader with the simplicity of everyday dreams. The hook is there from the first sentences and the intensity increases as we turn the pages. The characters are realistic and their construction is very good, where the passage of time and its horrors provoke a positive evolution in the protagonist. He takes us by the hand through a series of horrors, which in the end lead to salvation, to hope... all is not lost.
La trama es fácil de leer pero difícil de entender por su complejidad, sin embargo al final todo converge de una manera extraordinaria. Los hechos se presentan de manera cruda y explícita, donde el terror se traduce en cada palabra y el horror alcanza al lector con la simpleza del sueño cotidiano. El gancho está desde las primeras oraciones y la intensidad aumenta a medida que pasamos las páginas.
Los personajes son realistas y su construcción muy buena, donde el paso del tiempo y sus horrores provocan una evolución positiva en el protagonista. Este nos lleva de la mano por una serie de horrores, que al final desembocan en una salvación, en una esperanza… no todo está perdido.
The novel leads us to reflect on the danger of dictatorships and totalitarianism as a mistake that we cannot fall into again, so marked by fire as it is in the history of our beloved Latin America. My recommendation to read it is assured, you will not regret it.
La novela nos lleva a reflexionar sobre el peligro de las dictaduras y los totalitarismos como un error en el que no se puede volver a caer, tan marcado a fuego como está en la historia de nuestra querida Latinoamérica. Mi recomendación para su lectura está asegurada, no se van a arrepentir.
