The adventures of Narnia continue this time without the Pevensie siblings, now we know the story of Shasta, who is a young slave in a city called Calormen, on one occasion he escapes from his evil master with Bri, a talking horse from Narnia who pretends to be mute to avoid problems and attract attention. One day Shasta meets Aravis, a girl who is also running away with Hwin, her talking mare, and when everyone discovers a plot against Narnia they go to warn what is happening to the kings.
Las aventuras de Narnia continúan en esta ocasión sin los hermanos Pevensie, ahora conocemos la historia de Shasta, quién es un joven esclavo en una ciudad que se llama Calormen, en una ocasión escapa de su amo malvado junto a Bri, un caballo parlante de Narnia que se hace pasar por mudo para evitarse problemas y llamar la atención. Un día Shasta conoce a Aravis, una muchacha que también está huyendo con Hwin, su yegua parlante, y cuando todos descubren un complot contra Narnia van a advertir lo que sucede a los reyes.
The Pevensie siblings are present in this book but they are not the main characters as they were in the previous books, in fact I was pleasantly surprised while reading and realized that they were there too, since at the end of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe it was clear that the Pevensies had returned to England, but this book, The Lion and the Boy, is set in the timeline when they were kings and queens of Narnia, so it was very interesting to read about them acting like Narnians, and not as outsiders, as they were perceived in the previous book.
Los hermanos Pevensie sí que están presentes en este libro pero no son los protagonistas como sí lo eran en los libros anteriores, de hecho me llevé una grata sorpresa mientras leía y me di cuenta que ellos estaban también, ya que al final de El León, La Bruja y el Ropero quedaba claro que los Pevensie habían retornado a Inglaterra, pero este libro, El Ceballo y el muchacho se maneja en la línea temporal cuando ellos eran reyes y reinas de Narnia, así que fue muy interesante leer sobre ellos actuando como todos unos narnianos, y no como forasteros, como se percibían en el libro anterior.
This novel tells us about freedom and loyalty, the search for one's own origins and maturity, Shasta and Aravis are fleeing from their destinies, however Aravis causes consequences in her slave, since they reprimand her for not paying attention to her and preventing her escape, but not only do they reprimand her but they whip her, but Aslan, the great lion, acts differently than he had done in previous books, for the first time he is aggressive and attacks Aravis scratching her back, which at first surprised me, but then Aslan himself explains that the reason for his behavior is because it was his way of teaching the young woman about actions and consequences, she ran away and got what she wanted: freedom and happiness, but his servant paid the consequences.
Esta novela nos habla de la libertad y la lealtad, de la búsqueda del origen propio y de la madurez, Shasta y Aravis están huyendo de sus destinos, sin embargo Aravis causa consecuencias en su esclava, ya que la reprenden por no estar pendiente de ella y evitar su escape, pero no solo la reprenden sino que le dan latigazos, pero Aslan, el gran león, actúa de forma diferente a como lo había hecho en los libros anteriores, por primera vez se muestra agresivo y ataca a Aravis arañándole la espalda, lo que al principio me sorprendió, pero luego el propio Aslan explica que la razón de su comportamiento se debe a que fue su manera de aleccionar a la joven acerca de las acciones y las consecuencias, ella huyó y obtuvo lo que quería: libertad y felicidad, pero su sierva pagó las consecuencias.
Shasta and Bri's escape somehow symbolizes the journey of faith and spiritual growth, or at least that's what I perceived when reading this story. I also get a Christian perspective on it, as is customary in Narnia, Aslan is God who acts like a father, he teaches and sometimes even hurts, he lets his wrath fall on those who provoke him, but he also shows love to those who deserve it and demonstrates true loyalty.
El escape de Shasta y Bri simboliza de alguna manera el viaje de la fe y el crecimiento espiritual, o al menos eso es lo que yo percibí al leer esta historia, también le consigo un enfoque cristiano, como ya es costumbre en Narnia, Aslan es Dios que actúa como un padre, alecciona y en ocasiones hasta hiere, deja caer su ira sobre quién lo provoca, pero también demuestra amor a quien lo merece y le demuestra verdadera lealtad.
The pace of the story is not slow at all, on the contrary, it is exciting, each chapter that ends invites you to read the next one 😃 which made me question why I hadn't read this before, it is a fascinating read, worthy of reading many times.
El ritmo de la historia no es lento para nada, al contrario, es emocionante, cada capítulo que termina invita a leer el siguiente 😃 lo que hizo que me cuestionara el hecho de porqué no había leído esto antes, es una lectura fascinante, digna de leer muchas veces.
