Hello again, friends of Shadow Hunters! December has arrived, and the joy is already palpable in the streets of my country. For the first time in a long time, the cold is intensifying in a way I haven't seen before. For us Caribbean folk, a drop in temperature of just 1 or 2 degrees is enough to send a bone-chilling cold through us! For this Smash contest round #402, I spent the early hours of the morning looking for a Christmas-themed shadow, but my efforts were unsuccessful. Perhaps it was because I was in a hurry, as I had a meeting at the university at 9:00 a.m. with the heads of departments and lectures. But what was interesting was the location: the enigmatic Room 11.
Currently, this room is used for some classes that require video projection, seminars, thesis defenses, or outreach activities. The thing is, I've never actually seen classes in this room. Originally, it was a normal classroom with desks and a blackboard, but it was converted to look like a mini-amphitheater. The renovations began when I was presenting my undergraduate thesis project, so I never had the opportunity to attend classes there. During my doctoral studies, all my classes were held at the research institute where I now work, so I had rarely been inside this classroom; I only ever saw it from afar. Now I was about to use it for the first time in a meeting with professors. The meeting was brief, but I was struck by the solemnity of the place and the shadows cast by the light emanating from the room.

As I watched the shadows cast on the rows of seats, arranged at an angle, it certainly looked a bit intimidating. I imagined myself as a first-year student having to take one of the three pure sciences courses of the first semester: Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry! Or conversely, having to teach a graduate class or give a lecture. This classroom undoubtedly possesses a unique solemnity. Afterward, I took photographs of the shadow cast on the stage, which is made entirely of wood! Normally, the classrooms where I teach have a wooden platform, and when you move around the blackboard, it's inevitable to make noise, but it's a somewhat intimidating noise. The same thing happens here in classroom 11. The dim lighting creates such soft shadows that reinforce that reverential and circumspect atmosphere. I had to wait until all the other professors had left to capture the majesty of these shadows, but I think it was worth it in the end.

It was a pleasure to share this series of shadows with you, friends. Undoubtedly, being in this classroom has a very solemn air, and I can only imagine how the students must feel. Perhaps the word is "tiny" in the face of the imposing presence of a tenured or emeritus professor, and I think I was able to capture part of that essence in these shadows. Even when the classroom was empty, you could feel the reverberation of these solemn shadows.

Hola de nuevo amigos de Shadow Hunters! Para este concurso Smash round #402 estuve desde primeras horas de la mañana buscando una sombra de motivo navideño pero mis esfuerzos fueron infructuosos, quizás fue por la prisa que tenía ya que a las 9 am tenía una reunion en la universidad con los jefes de cátedra y departamento, pero lo interesante fue el lugar: la enigmática aula 11.
Actualmente esta aula se usa para algunas clases que requieran proyección en videobeam, seminarios, defensas de tesis o actividades de extensión. El asunto es que nunca pude ver clases en esta aula, originalmente era un aula normal con pupitres y pizarrón, pero fue acondicionada para darle ese aspecto de mini anfiteatro. Los trabajos de remodelación comenzaron cuando yo estaba presentando mi proyecto de tesis de pregrado así que nunca tuve la oportunidad de ver clases allí y durante mi doctorado todas mis clases fueron en el instituto de investigación donde ahora trabajo, así que muy pocas veces había entrado a esta aula, solo la veía de lejos y ahora me tocaba estrenarla en reunión con profesores. La reunión fue breve, pero me llamó la atención lo solemne del lugar y las sombras que se proyectaban con la luz que emitían el recinto.

Mientras veía las sombras que generaba en los asientos en fila, de forma inclinada, ciertamente se ve un poco atemorizante. Me imaginaba ser un estudiante de los primeros semestres y tener que ver alguna de las 3 ciencias puras del primer semestre: Matemáticas, Física y Química! O al revés tener que dar una clase de postgrado o dar una conferencia, sin duda que esta aula guarda una solemnidad única. Posteriormente, le tomé fotografías a la sombra que se generaba en el estrado, hecho completamente de madera! Normalmente las aulas donde doy clases tienen una tarima de madera y cuando te desplazas por el pizarrón es inevitable hacer ruido, pero es un ruido un tanto intimidante, igual pasa aquí en el aula 11, las luces tan tenues generan esas sombras tan suaves que refuerzan ese aspecto reverencial y circunspectos. Tuve que esperar a que todos los otros profesores se retiraran para poder capturar la majestuosidad de estas sombras pero creo que al final valió la pena.

Fue un gusto compartir con ustedes esta serie de sombras amigos, sin duda que estar en esta aula tiene un aire muy solemne y solo puedo imaginarme como pueden sentirse los estudiantes, quizás la palabra sea diminutos ante la imponencia de ver clases con un profesor titular o emérito y creo que parte de esa esencia pude capturarla en estas sombras, que incluso cuando el aula estaba vacía podía sentirse la reverberación de estas sombras solemnes.
