San Francisco Church (En/ Es)

Today I bring you friends an architectural work, which has accompanied me since I can remember in my city in Caracas, Venezuela and is the church popularly known as “San Francisco” or as it is legally known also as the church of the Immaculate Conception of Catholic origin. This church is located in the central area of my city; I have always visited it because it is one of the most centrally located churches and therefore easily accessible. Since I was a little girl I used to visit it with my mother and I always looked at it with curiosity and admiration for everything that can be seen in it.

Beautifully decorated, with different types of architecture such as baroque, neoclassical, colonial, Doric pillars, resulting in an exquisite combination and very beautiful to look at; besides that it is folded with beautiful religious paintings created by different artists; these are by the different spaces giving it a different touch to other temples I have visited, where more emphasis is placed on the figures or statues representing God, the saints and the Virgin Mary. This church has this particularity, besides the fact that it is beautifully illuminated by classic chandeliers. Giving the feeling of entering another era, every time you enter its enclosure.

But one of the things I like the most are its high, spacious and decorated wooden ceilings, apart from the confessionals and benches well arranged for prayer, as well as its main doors dating from colonial times, being all beautifully preserved, polished and carved. Apart from its shiny and well kept floors, by the time I entered the place, they were cleaning all its spaces, because soon they were going to start a religious service, so I arrived in good time before the place filled up and suddenly hindered the service a little, while taking my pictures. Fortunately it was not like that.

I have many memories of this church because it was one of my favorites when visiting the 7 temples, a Catholic tradition that takes place every Good Friday during Holy Week. On the other hand, every time I could, I would visit it as an adult, because it was close to my work at that time; I remember that I would go in and sit down for my prayers and rest for a while from the stress of the city, since it is a place that has a very warm and welcoming atmosphere and it is one of the churches that almost always remains open to the public unlike other temples that have shorter hours.

As I took the pictures, I found myself remembering the times I would go in, for any problem or concern, and just sit and pray and come out much better. There are few places that, even though years go by, inspire me to keep visiting them and not because of religiosity precisely, simply because it is a place that gives me serenity and is also a house of God, regardless of religion. I personally like very much to visit these sacred places where people go to have that encounter with their spirituality and this church is conducive to it. Hoy les traigo amigos una obra arquitectónica, que me ha acompañado desde que tengo uso de memoria en mi ciudad en Caracas, Venezuela y es la iglesia muy popularmente conocida como "San Francisco" o como se le conoce legalmente también como La iglesia de la Inmaculada Concepción de origen católico. Esta iglesia está ubicada en todo el casco central de mi ciudad; desde siempre la he visitado porque es una de las iglesias que están más céntricas y, por ende, de muy fácil acceso. Desde pequeña la visitaba con mi madre y siempre la miraba con curiosidad y admiración por todo lo que se puede ver en ella.

Hermosamente decorada, con diferentes tipos de arquitecturas como la barroca, neoclásica, colonial, pilares de orden dórico, dando por resultado una combinación exquisita y muy hermosa a la vista; aparte de que está plegada de bellas pinturas de orden religioso creadas por diferentes artistas; estas están por los diferentes espacios dándole un toque diferente a otros templos que he visitado, donde se hace más énfasis en las figuras o estatuas que representan a Dios, los santos y la Virgen María. Esta iglesia tiene esta particularidad, aparte de que está bellamente iluminada por lámparas clásicas de estilo araña. Brindando la sensación de entrar en otra época, cada vez que se entra en su recinto.

Pero una de las cosas que más me gusta, son sus techos, altos, espaciosos y decorados en madera, aparte de los confesionarios y bancas bien dispuestas para la oración, así como sus puertas principales que datan de la época colonial, siendo todo bellamente conservado, pulido y labrado. Aparte de sus pisos brillantes y bien cuidados, para cuando entre al lugar, estaban limpiando todos sus espacios, pues pronto iban a iniciar un servicio religioso, así es que llegué a buen tiempo antes de que el lugar se llenara y de repente entorpeciera un poco el servicio, al tomar mis fotos. Afortunadamente no fue así.

De esta iglesia, tengo muchos recuerdos porque era una de mis preferidas al visitar los 7 templos, tradición católica que se da todos los viernes santos, en la Semana Mayor o Semana Santa. Por otro lado, cada vez que podía, entraba a visitarla ya de adulta, pues me quedaba cerca de mi trabajo por ese entonces; recuerdo que entraba me sentaba hacia mis oraciones y descansaba un rato del estrés de la ciudad, ya que es un lugar que tiene un ambiente muy cálido y acogedor y es una de las iglesias que casi siempre permanece abierta al público a diferencia de otros templos que tienen horarios más reducidos.

Al tomar las fotos, me encontré recordando las veces que entraba, por cualquier problema o inquietud, y simplemente me sentaba a orar y salía mucho mejor. Hay pocos lugares que, aunque pasen los años, me inspiran a seguir visitándolas y no por religiosidad precisamente, simplemente porque es un lugar que me regala serenidad y que también es una casa de Dios, independientemente de la religión. A mí personalmente me gusta mucho visitar estos lugares sagrados donde las personas van a tener ese encuentro con su espiritualidad y esta iglesia es propicia para ello.
