Celebrating tradition with joy.

in The City of Neoxianlast month (edited)

My most fulfilling experience this year started last week Friday, and having the holiday extended throughout this week is a blessing because it will give me more time to have fun and also prepare myself for resumption next week. I am the type who loves having fun, but there isn't much to talk about this year because I am currently serving my country in a state I am not familiar with, so I choose to tread gently.

I barely go out except when it involves a good number of my fellow corpers because of the terrible news happening in different parts of Nigeria.

On Thursday evening, I packed my things and traveled home for Eid Mubarak. This is one celebration I haven't done away from my family before, and the tradition continues this year. A few of my mates persuaded me to stay behind, but that's not going to happen because, aside from the Eid Mubarak, the popular Ojude Oba Festival would happen, and I wasn't going to miss the event.

I arrived home on Thursday evening, and my family was very happy to see me. My cousins, nephews, and other family, both far and near, were already at home preparing for the Eid Mubarak.

We went to the Eid prayer ground in the morning, and it was beautiful seeing people we grew up with also coming around to celebrate with their families. After the Eid prayers, the fun mode in me was turned on.

There were local drummers outside the praying ground, and I went with my family to shake a body. As a big girl, I sprayed a little cash and showed some of the TikTok challenge steps I have been learning recently.

We went from the praying ground back home to prepare our Eid food, and it was awesome. Luckily for me, I didn't have much to do because there were so many people around to help with the cooking.

Later in the evening, I went out with my lover and some of our friends. We went around the city, stopping at different spots to enjoy ourselves. It was an opportunity for many of us to meet and have fun again because we might not get to see each other again until next year due to our jobs and because some people no longer live in Ijebu.

Sunday was the big day in the whole of Ijebu because of the Ojude Oba Festival that is held every year. It's an open event I have been attending since I was little, and the performance, celebration, and others keep getting better.

It's a classy event that involves horses paraded by different reputable families in Ijebu Ode. There are various celebrities and politicians available to grace the event, there are always lots of people there to celebrate, and it's a beautiful sight to behold.

Speaking of color, class, elegance, and steeze, it's always perfect at the Ojude Oba festival, and I did enjoy this year's show just like the previous year.

Unfortunately, I couldn't get a proper picture of the event because I didn't want to lose my phone like my friend did last year, but you can see enough video from the event online.

Right now, I am only planning to visit some friends before returning to complete my NYSC, and I will be back home preparing for the next thing on my list.

It's indeed a great fun you have there.

Yes, it was really fun.

For me, Eid celebration is always fun to watch. I am sure you enjoyed it as it is your culture and tradition.

I always look forward to Eid's celebration, that's only when I get to save my 6k for Amala because my neighbours will always visit me with loads of it for free, hahaha!

Happy Eid Mubarak in arrears 🎉

You had fun too and I would have given you more Amala with big meats if you had been nearby. I had fun and pray we celebrate next year celebration in happiness again.

Hahaha...! Amen to that.

Returning home for your Eid celebrations is wonderful as you continue to be a partake in the religious tradition. You were also able to enjoy the cultural festival - Ojude Oba. It looks very stylish and colourful indeed and a great traditional celebration and legacy.
