The moment I read the question, I knew, or I thought I knew, what my answer was, and this was because this is not the first time the question has been debated, and whenever such a question comes up, my answer is usually, I am going to return the money to the rightful owner because the money is not mine. At least my parents did a good job in raising me in a good way so I am not a thief, and to crown it all, I am a devoted born-again Christian. Exodus 20:15 instructs, Thou shalt not steal, and as a Christian committed to keeping God's words, I will ensure that I obey that instruction, despite the odds.
But after reading the question again for the second time, I had a change of mind. You know, the different heist movies I have watched where the actor gets to steal from different big, well-secured organizations owned by bad people or government organizations and then distribute the money to the poor citizens were playing in my head.
I am a very content person; anything that is not mine or beyond my reach does not really ignite my interest or catch my fancy. That was why, without thinking, my first response was to return the money back to the owner. I know $500,000 is a huge amount of money, and you are probably thinking in your mind that I might be pretending to be a good person. I have never seen this amount of money, but I have seen millions of dollars; I once worked at a finance company, and the money in the vault looked like papers to me because they were not my money. We were oriented to see them as working tools, with no value on them.
So on second thought, my returning of the money depends on the politicians involved. Ninety-nine point nine percent of all our politicians are greedy and wicked; it is only a little fraction, as little as zero point one percent of them, that truly fear the Lord.
If it is a good politician, I would one hundred percent return it, but if it is the other way round, I would not return it because I bet my life and that of my generation that the money is not his; probably it belongs to the nations that he stole from to go and squander on things that are not worth it.
So I am going to devise a measure I can deploy and use to help a lot of people. I don't want the police to get an intel that am with the money, they will kill me without thinking twice. Such an amount of money is a huge. I cannot imagine the thousands of families I would cater for with it. With such an amount of money, I could leave an indelible mark in the hearts of many for a very long time.
These are the kind of people that need the money, not the politicians.
