Breaking Down Stereotype: Men In The Kitchen

in HiveGhana6 days ago

Hello, beautiful people! Welcome to my blog. It's a pleasure to have you in this space. Once again, welcome 🤗

For centuries, mostly in Africa, there has been this stereotype that the kitchen is the woman's domain; the man has no place in the kitchen, or it's a taboo for a man to be seen working in the kitchen. However, the world and we as individuals keep evolving, and things keep changing. This stereotype is slowly becoming outdated.

In this day and time, I think it would be unfair to say that men shouldn't work or help with the kitchen.

I don't see anything wrong with a man helping out with the kitchen, and this shouldn't even be a debate anymore. I see it as wickedness when a woman is all alone working in the kitchen and a man, be it her husband or brother, is around doing nothing and not helping her out.

I once had a colleague who was heavily pregnant then, and when she came to work, she usually looked tired in the morning, and even though she was excited at the close of work that she was going to rest, sometimes you would hear her saying she wasn't going to rest immediately when she got home because she still had a lot to do. One day when we got talking, she casually told me her husband is not domesticated, that he is a typical African man; apparently he is the only male child amongst his sisters, so they did everything for him.

And he grew up with that mindset that a man is a king, and some certain house chores were just meant for women. She told me her husband doesn't take his plate to the kitchen when he's done eating; he leaves it on the table when she gets back home, and she will take it to the kitchen and start cooking that night. As of that time, he had more time than her because she said he was mostly at home while she was working 7am - 6pm.

Because she didn't see anything wrong with him, I didn't say anything to her; I was just looking at her and saying God forbid in my mind.

While some people might not see anything wrong with him, I see a wicked man. It won't take anything from the man to cook before his wife comes back from work.

I know someone that a week after his wife gave birth through CS, he told her to start cooking because he misses her food. To me, this is witchcraft.

Personally, one of the criteria of a sexy and good man is a man who's willing to lift some burdens from his woman, and if one of those burdens is part of kitchen work (which it always will be), then he should joyfully do it.

Cooking together with your family can be a fun and rewarding experience and also increase the bond between family members.

Thank you 😊

A man who is mostly at home and does not help his pregnant wife who works from 7 am to 6 pm in the kitchen, is pure wickedness; some women really need to ask their husbands to help out when there is a need.

Some women don't see anything wrong with their husbands not helping them, because they too also think the kitchen is not a man's place

Is a different case if the wife is pregnant but if not wife should hold their kitchen work

You are absolutely right dear.
I don't admire men who are not in any way domesticated.
Because these are normal things and should be done with joy.
It's not as if you will do everything but a cool division of labour in the kitchen matters a lot.

You summarize everything, at least a cool division even if it's not everyday

Exactly 💯

Excellent!
We need to break stereotypes!

Yes we do 😁

My sister, you need to see the way my face just twisted in anger as I read what that your colleague was saying. Me self kuku forbid it for myself and my daughters o.

How can a man be that wicked haba.

This boils down to women not asking questions.

I agree with you. A man who helps out in the kitchen always seems sexy and manly

You won't believe that some women are the reason why some men will never help out with kitchen work. I recently came across a post on Facebook where a man said some women in his neighborhood call him woman wrapper because of how he always helps his wife with chores and errands

Is the name calling reducing the money in his bank account?

Some men need to learn to block their ears to certain words and do what is right by their wives especially when they know that both man and wife are a team.
