The Effort Equation

in HiveGhana10 days ago

I heard the most hilarious conversation ever. I know it’s beginning to sound like I talk to a lot of people, but it’s the opposite. A lot of people talk to me rather. Like just today, I was dragged into a conversation I knew nothing about. And they actually took their time to explain what they were talking about to me just so I would be able to comment.

One person was talking about how he’s been waiting for a while to grow. And then the other person started laughing because what his friend was saying didn’t make sense at all. So that was why they dragged me into the conversation. They wanted to know why one person has been waiting for a while to experience growth but wasn’t seeing it.

So I asked him a simple question using a simple scenario. I asked him if he knew how gold was made. And he actually explained the whole process to me, which kind of got me impressed. So I now ask him what was going to happen to the ore of gold if I were to leave it unattended for years.

He then replied that it was still going to remain as ore without any form of processing. And people might even neglect it, not knowing its worth or whatever it was for. At that point, he was just looking at me, waiting for me to make my point.

So I told him it’s the same with growth. I know he’s been waiting for a while to see growth, but that’s not how it works. Growth doesn’t happen automatically.

Even with physique, you have to make sure you eat well and exercise enough to get that physique you want. It’s the same with growth. Whether emotional or whatever. You have to work hard and subject yourself to a lot of things to be refined to that growth you want.

Let me repeat that it’s not automatic. It didn’t happen as he said. It’s not like you say you want to experience growth, so you wait for that growth to happen. It doesn’t work like that. You have to work for it. You have to put in effort, a lot of it. The way you talk, the way to respond to situations, the way you relate with people and a whole lot. Whatever form of growth you want to achieve, you’d have to work for it.

That was a nice scenario you painted for him to see and the way you further explained it should have given him a clear understanding on what growth looks like.

Stagnation truncates growth and only by doing something and moving from your place of comfort will you truly experience growth.

Thank you for sharing @abenad

That’s a very beautiful and valid point right there. Thank you.

Most people are not always patient to experience growth, they want it to happen immediately and are not ready to pay the price of hard work or consistency. Growth is a slow but worthy process.

Thank you for sharing @abenad

Yes, it indeed is worthy. Thank you

Great scenario! Growth is an active process, for the most part. One has to keep purring in the work, reiterate and refine the process. Waiting usually comes after that's sufficiently done, let time take its course, to ripen the fruit, so to speak.

Rightly said. Waiting is done after the effort is made.
