All Hail My Motherland

in HiveGhanalast year

Happy birthday to Ghana. My motherland is 67 years of age. People say happy independence but I just choose to say “happy birthday”. The country isn’t “all that” but when I wake up every blessed day, I’m always grateful for the peace that heavily reigns in Ghana. We really underrate peace until we hear the violence and suffering going on in other countries(Our hearts are with you all).

I don’t want to brag(proceeds to brag) but I’m yet to meet someone who doesn’t know about the resources in Ghana. I dont know what statistics say and let’s just forget about statistics but Ghana is definitely one of the richest countries in terms of natural resources. From mineral resources to vegetation to arable land. This country is really blessed.

Can we now talk about the people? Have you seen Ghanaian women? Have you seen the men? One thing I know is that we’re blessed with beauty. Ghanaians are so beautiful and what makes it more fascinating is the diversity. There’s nothing like one particular tribe at a particular place. Even though Takoradi is for Ahantas, you’ll see fantes, northerners and Ashantis here. Cape Coast is a fanteland but you sure would meet ewes, ashantis and others tribes there and it links to the peace I spoke about.

Oh! The rich culture of this land. Even me that have been here all my life and know our culture, I always get fascinated anytime it is being shown. Just when you thought you’ve seen it all, then boom you see someone carrying water in a woven basket. Another person doubts, carries it and the water pours on him. I just remembered the Okomfo anokye sword that has been in Kumasi for over how many years and nobody has been able to pull it out. These stories are the reason why I never slept in Religious and Moral Education class in primary.

How can I forget the USA in Ghana: Takoradi. Just so you didn’t know, Takoradi popularly known as Tadi is the Ghana USA. In fact give me a minute to kneel down and thank God that I was born and raised in Takoradi. I’m expecting some jealous Ghanaians to come and say otherwise but that’s fine. Takoradi is one of the nicest places in Ghana. It should be on your bucket list.

I can’t just talk about Ghana without talking about the food. One of the reasons why I love being a Ghanaian is definitely the food. Fufu and abenkwan(palmnut soup)?, mpotormpotor?(cocoyam porridge), mfantsemfantse?(fresh fish stew), gob3?(beans and fried plantain with gari) “what you sayinggg?” stop stop!!! Whattt??…my favorite is mpotormpotor. I remember how anytime my mom wanted to get me to snitch on my brothers she would cook mpotormpotor. Ahhh, it always worked like magic. After the first taste, I would just snitch and even talk about things they did two years ago.

It’s really nice being a Ghanaian and of course I am proud to be Abena.

Happy independence, it is nice that a country has political stability in spite of the circumstances, be thankful to have a place to feel at home.
