The Betrayal

in The Ink Well9 days ago

Amara sat quietly in her room, staring at her reflection in the mirror, wondering if there was actually something wrong with her. This is the second time she is finding herself in such a similar situation, and she couldn't help but feel a sense of hopelessness. Her chest felt so heavy, as if it might burst from the pain she was experiencing.

Let's backtrack to when Adelekan, the new auditor, walked into their branch. He was dressed so smartly and elegantly, and to crown it, he was so handsome, and his smile caught Amara's attention as he walked past her desk to his office.

Later that day he requested her presence to clarify some documents she had earlier sent to him, and as they conversed, he couldn't help but admire how intelligent and outspoken she was. As the days went by, the more they talked, the more drawn they became to each other.

The day Adelekan confessed his love for Amara she initially rejected him because she hadn't gotten over the painful heartbreak of Tony, her boyfriend of five years, who had gotten another woman pregnant and married her while Amara thought they were still together.

If not for her friend Ehi, who called her to inform her that she saw their wedding pictures online, she would have still been with that liar and cheater. It was a hard time for her, so Amara had told herself she would stay away from relationships for a while, but Adelekan was so persistent, and with his sweet words, he eventually won her over.

Two years down the line everything seemed perfect; Adelekan was a dream come true, everything a girl could ever want in a man. Amara never knew she would find a love so perfect; she felt like she was the happiest person in the world because of the kind of love and sweetness Adelekan kept showering her with.

One night while Amara and her cousin Ifeoma were having a conversation, out of nowhere, Ifeoma asked a question that made Amara uneasy:

When is Ade planning to visit your parents? It's been two years already, and I haven't heard you say he has mentioned anything related to marriage.

"Very soon, I am sure of it," Amara replied with a sheepish smile on her face.

Ifeoma turned and looked at her. "Well, I would advise you to ask him what his plans are for the both of you so you don't end up wasting time with him because you are not getting any younger."

For sure. "I will ask him," Amara responded.

Amara tried to brush off what Ifeoma said, but her words lingered. That night while she and Adelekan were having their love talk on the phone, Amara asked Adelekan about what his plans were for the both of them, and his response left her stunned: he told her he had no plans to get married or settle down anytime soon; at the moment he is focusing on making money and leaving the country. Since it seems like she's in a hurry to get married, she should just look for someone else, and he ended the call on her.

Amara tried calling him back to explain things to him, but he didn't pick up her call. He later sent her a text message that it was over between them.

Amara was angry at her cousin and blamed her for her breakup with Adelekan.

Two months after the breakup incident, Amara was going through her contacts' WhatsApp statuses when she saw a picture of Adelekan with another lady in his status with the caption, "Can't wait to start forever with you, my darling. You all are invited to our wedding tomorrow."

Tears welled up in her eyes, and her chest was tight. She wondered why she attracted the wrong kind of guys.

The pain she was feeling was deep and inexplicable. She never expected this kind of betrayal from Adelekan. Amara couldn't help but think about the past two years they spent together.

She couldn't believe she had given her heart to Adelekan, only for him to trash it into the waste bin.

She took a deep breath and tried to calm herself down. She told herself she had to move on, she won't allow this affect her, though the pains were still fresh but she knew that when the time is right everything would work out well for her own good.

It's never good to put all your egg in one basket, it can fall and all eggs will break

Absolutely

Over-dependence on the love of a man is just a waste of time.

Amara stayed with a guy for two years and yet she didn't sniff that his hear was not with her. If not for her cousin, she probably would still be there until the actual wedding day.

Hmmm, too bad. Amara needs to get a good trip on her life and also place a high price tag on her heart before accepting another relationship.

You are right, but people just get blinded by anything that looks like love

Mtchewww, what love is that.

This usually happens to people who lack love in the home and therefore, they seek love outside.

Who can know the heart of men 🤕, I think she should step back a bit and try to check why these guys ain't looking forward to settle down with her because they both had plans to settle down, but not with her.

No matter what, she would have to give love a try again sometimes, giving up ain't among the options

You are right, she really needs to look inward to know the reason this guy ends up with another lady

So many reasons not to depend or trust entirely on the love men preach. If Amara's cousin hadn't brought up the topic, Amara would not have known where she stood in Ade's life and she would have wasted maybe more than that two years with him. It's not her fault that she has only encountered the wrong kind of people, some people are just wicked. She will find her Mr. right

You are right, it's really not her fault that she gets to meet with the wrong guys.

She just needs to be patient and Mr right will locate her.

What I can say is that Amara was yet to meet her future partner otherwise, all this disappointment would be a thing of the past. She shouldn't allow the present to becloud her sense of optimism.

You are right. The right person will love her the right way

Amara was so in love that she was thinking of how long they've been dating. Ade on the other had is a dishonest guy. Imagine wasting her years making her think he'd marry her.

Ade really did her bad, thanks for stopping by 🤗

I think if Amara can focus on building friendships instead of just falling for men, it'd help her. Two heartbreaks in how many years? That's enough to shatter her. But thank God she didn't spend three, four, five years with Adelekan before realizing who he truly was. However, I believe she'll be fine if she prioritizes healing over anything else.

That's right, she needs to get healed first before falling in love again
