Inkwell Prompt #223- Revenge Served Cold

in The Ink Well3 days ago

Hola and welcome to my space 😊

I and Gregory had never agreed on the same thing before; we were obviously two separate and distinct people, one of the reasons we never liked each other. Gregory had this thing for maltreating people, and it was clear why he didn't like me because I was an opponent of his bad behavior. While everyone saw Gregory as a giant, I saw him as one of the few people that needed to be taught a lesson. Everyone saw me as their knight in shining armor because I was the only one who could stand up to Gregory's ill habits.

The news of Gregory being a bully spread across the whole school, and his case became a pressing one. On several occasions, Gregory had been summoned by the disciplinary committee, reported by people he had threatened to harm or deal with after school. It had never been easy for anyone who stepped on his toes, with his cohorts around, causing revenge wasn't difficult for him. Suspended on several occasions, Gregory still clung to his behavior without a second thought of repenting.

Who would have thought that a transfer student who appeared calm and harmless would be the reason for people's insecurity in school? Deep down, Gregory knew his days in the school were almost up, especially when he was given an undertaking to sign, and that sooner or later he might be taken to jail. He wanted to get the best revenge on me and had it all planned out. However, he hesitated on implementing it.

Everything changed after a video of Gregory buying drugs from one of the students surfaced. This was it – the lesson I had always wanted to teach Gregory; I finally found something to pin him down for good. When the message got to the board of proprietors, a decision was made to expel Gregory from school. This wasn't much of a big deal for Gregory since he had anticipated that something like this would happen. His plan to see that he had his revenge on me kicked started.

Since Gregory was still writing his exams, he was permitted to stay till he was done with his papers. The exams weren't going to end until two months later, which gave him enough time to implement his plan. A week after the expulsion decision, everyone noticed a change in Gregory's behavior, but I didn't buy it. A bully like him would never go down without a fight.

News of his new attitude spread across the whole school, and as weeks turned to months, the new attitude was still there – it was like he was cleansed. But I knew something wasn't right, without any proof, all my convictions were useless.

It happened that the interschool basketball competition was to take place after our exams – that was going to be our last match for the school. For the past year, the trophy hadn't been with us because of the feud between me and Gregory, but this year was different. It turned out that all the team needed was coordination and brotherhood, and with his new attitude, it was made possible.

That day, after the tournament was over, Gregory invited everyone to come for an after-party, including me. It didn't feel quite right, so I didn't want to go, but since it was our last night together, I accepted the invite. Alas, Gregory's scheme was coming to a conclusion.

The party had already started when I got there; everyone was enjoying themselves, aside from me. I had my eyes literally scanning the whole environment and didn't want to let my guard down. Indeed, I was certainly ill at ease. Coming over to his place was one of the decisions I knew I might regret.

I got pressed and had to visit the toilet. When I got in, I ensured no one was with me while urinating. I heard the main door open; I knew something was off. I heard multiple footsteps coming in, and the door was locked. Filled with uncertainty about what was happening in my environment, I came out. Lo and behold, Gregory and his boys had surrounded me with no way to run. I told him not to do anything stupid before I could react; I received a blow that sent me straight to the floor. I got dealt with so badly.

One of my friends realized I hadn't come out of the toilet and raised an alarm, and so the music was turned off. It was then that everyone heard the commotion and called the police. Luckily, I was saved, although severely injured.

Thanks for reading ☺️

Whoa, this had me hooked from start to finish. Gregory was the type of character you just love to hate, and the tension between you two really carried the story. I kept waiting to see how it would all unfold, and that ending - intense. You wrote the atmosphere and buildup so well, especially at the party. It felt like something was about to go down, and you nailed the suspense.
Glad the narrator made the out alive - barely 😂
Great storytelling
