At home my parents avoided having pets because one of my sisters was very allergic, so since I was a child I grew up without having contact with animals beyond sporadic visits to the zoo, aquarium or a visit to a relative or friend with pets.
The funny thing about all this is that both my mom's family and my mom's side of the family had farms, raised animals and also used to have different pets at home, and on vacations when we visited them we had some contact with animals, however, I grew up with the idea that they could “make us sick” and whenever I could I avoided them.
When my son was 5 years old and the divorce happened, he began to ask me for a pet, but I was giving him a lot of delays, I did not know what it was to have an animal at home and I was not attracted to the idea because of all that could represent their care. Years later cats came into my life, I started to get some strange signs like a cat that got into my trunk (of the 64 in my residence) and gave birth to a litter of kittens there.
Then while I was at the mechanic shop a cat got inside my purse and looked at me as if telling me “take me”, it was very funny this scene, but even so I kept ignoring the subject of pets, but I admit that I started to be attracted to cats a little bit.
A year later I was driving on a road I had never been on before and a very small cat that was running down the street crossed my path, I immediately braked, got out of the car and without thinking I grabbed it and mounted it in my vehicle, I gave it to my son who was screaming nervously because he did not know what to do and had never grabbed an animal, it was a little chaotic, but I felt the urge to save it and a kind of call to protect this little one that had suddenly appeared in our lives.
So Oreo came into our lives in February 2024 and months later Michi also arrived to join him, they are my 2 kittens and it has been a transformation in our lives that I did not imagine, especially for my children, I am impressed to see the results they have had with the interaction with the cats and in a way I regret not having done it before.
Miguel who is now 14 years old (the one who asked me for the pet when he was 5) has become more affectionate and has taken full responsibility for his care. The changes have been amazing, which is why I love the presence of our kitties in our family dynamic so much now, although it has also meant adapting to some destructive antics from them.
I don't know how different it would be if instead of cats it would have been a puppy, I don't know that relationship, however, I feel that I am more of a cat person, I love their personality, how affectionate they are, they are extremely intelligent and what I like the most (which I think is what differentiates them from dogs) is that they are very independent and less noisy.
I like to sit on the furniture to watch movies and have them there close to me as if they were permanently taking care of me, giving me company, and also when I feel their purr synchronize with my heartbeat when they put themselves on my chest. I think cats are very healing, I don't know if dogs will have that ability, but certainly the mysticism and healing touch is present in cats.
