In mid-2017 I moved to another city and due to the distance I decided to abandon my studies, I already had a higher technical degree and was beginning my engineering studies, but the university was more than an hour away from my new home, in addition, the crisis in the country affected me strongly, so, having only the title of higher technician in electronics, I decided to look for a job.
Soon I managed to find a job where I could use some technical knowledge. The company was in charge of installing security fences and infrared sensors in oil wells since in those times insecurity was very strong.
The work was hard, we were a group of 8 people who had to constantly install, monitor and remove about 3 fences per day, each job took us about 3 hours under the intense sun. I remember there were days where the heat was so strong that I could feel it on my eyelids.
Despite the precarious conditions, I liked the work, it was an emerging company but unfortunately they covered many jobs with few staff, which made the work extremely heavy. There were days when I left the house at 7 in the morning and returned at 8 at night, I realized that this was normal and it didn't bother me at all. However, there was something that was made very clear: if the departure time was after 7 pm, they had to take me home, they accepted without problem.
One day they left me working doing maintenance on the equipment, we had to install it the next day and they let me leave around 9 at night, a little upset, I demanded that they take me home, at that time it was impossible to get there by transportation public and the office was in one of the most unsafe areas of the city.
My boss, in a very bad way, agreed to take me but only to a certain point, I had to reluctantly accept and called my father to pick me up at the place where my boss was going to drop me off. My father, when he was on the way, was hit by a motorcycle, the accident was very dramatic and the car was left in very bad condition, the motorcycle was unusable. Luckily, there were no injuries, the impact was on the co-pilot's side, where no one was there, and the motor vehicle only had some minor bumps.
That resulted in a big problem, my dad had to pay a lot of money in compensation. It bothered me a lot because it shouldn't have happened, the company had guaranteed me transportation if the work finished after the night and that day they didn't fulfill it. The day after the accident I ended that job abruptly, very upset, had a heated argument with my boss and left the office.
Days later, the manager called me asking me to come back, she told me that I had been a good employee and that she had never had a complaint from me. They offered me a 6 month contract, but I kindly declined the offer and moved on with my life. I decided to resume my university studies despite all the adversities. Curiously, the boss of the company, with whom I was fighting, called me for several weeks asking me to go back to work, but I was still very upset.
I involved my father in a legal and monetary problem due to the inefficiency and lack of seriousness of a company. So I never agreed to work with them again even though I really liked the job. Today I think I would make the same decision again, while I was studying I got a job that generated more income and with fewer hours of work. Life and its twists and turns have always surprised me.
