As much as I love traveling on the weekends in the Summer, there is also something really nice about having a lazy weekend at home. I use lazy loosely as there is often a ton of things to get done when you are finally able to find yourself home. @mrsbozz and I have a full slate for the rest of June, so we made the most of our time home this past weekend. After we got up on Saturday morning and she made me a nice breakfast of hashbrowns, "dippy" eggs, and scrambled sausage, my wife asked me what I had planned for the day. I knew she already had a list going in her mind of things she wanted to get done, so I answered how any happily married man would.
"Whatever you tell me to do honey."
Her first order of business was getting the interior of the travel trailer cleaned since we hadn't done that since our last camping trip in May. While she was cleaning the trailer, she had me concoct a solution of vinegar, salt, and dish soap she had found the recipe for online to kill weeds. I loaded everything into my handy sprayer and went about spraying all the weeds that have somehow made their way through the landscape fabric in our front beds.
Then, while she was cleaning the interior of the house, I fired up my father in laws power washer and did our annual spray down of the deck so we could get our furniture up on it for the summer.

After the deck was finished and I had the power washer squared away in the garage, I set about mowing the lawn. We seem to be past that part of the year where the grass grows out of control every week and it actually wasn't too bad to cut this weekend. About 45 minutes when the lawn was all taken care of, I set about clearing the weeds from our back flower beds. Then I pulled a few more from my sorry garden before I headed inside to take a shower and eat some lunch.

Rain has been pretty scarce lately and I didn't realize it at first but you can really see it in the grass once it is cut. I might need to adjust my mower deck and give the grass a little more length so it can fill in a bit more.

There's really something special about admiring a freshly mowed lawn that you took care of yourself. It might be tiresome while you are doing it, but the fruits of your labor pretty much always pay off.
After lunch, @mrsbozz decided to take a nap and I spent some time on the couch watching a couple episodes of Daredevil Born Again and getting caught up on some HIVE stuff.

Around four o'clock in the afternoon, I fired up the grill and put the umbrella up on the deck to give us some shade from the sun that beats down on the back of the house in the afternoon. We made some cocktails and spent some time sitting on the deck talking about options for more shade. I think we settled on a hard covered canopy for the deck, we just need to pick the right one.

While I was tending to the grill, I took this shot of our lawn from ground level. I never really realized just how uneven our backyard is until I looked at this photo!

While my wife drank a premade seltzer from a can, I decided to try mixing a bottle of lemonade I had gotten from someone at work with a little bit of Crown Royal Blackberry that I also got from a different person at work. The combination was pretty amazing, but quite sweet. I don't think would have been able to drink too many of these.
On a hot summer day though, this was a very refreshing cocktail and you actually couldn't taste the whisky that much. @mrsbozz even agreed. It was much too sweet for her liking though.

I drank my drink from this cool little cup I got from a vendor last fall at a professional conference. It's a pretty cool little Yeti style knock off tumbler.

Dinner consisted of a nice thick cut pork chop on the grill that we cut on the bias and then marinated to help it grill a little better. We paired it with brussel sprouts and some butternut squash mac and cheese that we got from Trader Joe's.
On my pork I put a little bit of seasoning that I recently picked up from a company called Dizzy Pig. They had a sampler pack and I thought it was a really good deal for $12 to see what they had to offer. If you haven't noticed, spice rubs are expensive and many times you have to buy a huge canister of it. What happens if you don't care for the seasoning? Do you throw it out? Suffer through it? Give it away? I wish more places had sampler packs like Dizzy Pig does.
After dinner @mrsbozz and I spent some more time on the deck reading our books. I actually finished mine which if you know me is pretty impressive. It takes me a long time to get through books, so being able to check one of my list is nice. I will be writing more about this particular book later in the week.
When it started getting too chilly outside for my wife, we headed inside and watched a bit of TV before heading to bed.
For me, it's weekends like this that make all the running around on the other weekends worth it. I clocked close to 20,000 steps on Saturday alone and as mrsbozz told me on Sunday, we got everything on her list taken care of except two minor things that she didn't seem too upset about.
Now that's a good weekend!
