This was a long search
When I found the first coin I want to buy to honour my oldest daughter, I continued looking for one to honour her brother, who was born two years later, in 2012. I started browsing the same way, first just see what 2012 silver rounds would pop up and waiting until I felt which one would be emotional suitable for me. Then I knew where I should look for: cats. Although I rarely stumble upon cat silver rounds, I figured there should be coins available, but the question is, will I find them from 2012?
Why cats?
If I think back about our wonderful first experience of having little kittens at home, it's impossible not to think about my son. The first litter was born when the children and me were still staying in a women's shelter, but we spent more time at my boyfriend's house than we did there because it was already clear we'd not be staying long anymore. We were lucky to witness the first weeks of these little babies from up close and honestly, it was exactly what we all needed at that time. There's something magical about the presence of cats and it was surely shining light in this heavy period.
The kitten box
My son was so extremely excited about the little kittens but still had to learn to be careful as they weren't toys. One of us was constantly watching when he came close to the kitten box because there were a few moments where he decided to join the mother cat and kittens in the box as he thought he'd be able to snuggle up with them, lol. Of course momma cat was not that amused by this idea, yet she remained friendly because she was a sweetheart.
I also remember he tripped once where we luckily could avoid him damaging the box of the mama and her babies. My son definitely didn't mean any harm, he was just too excited and had to learn how to handle these little furry creatures. So as thinking back about the first litters we had always leads to thinking about my son and his love for the kittens, I decided to find a silver round with a cat to honour him.
2012 1 Crown - Elizabeth II Manx Cat 1 oz silver round
As I mentioned, it was harder finding my pick today than it was for my oldest. I was first looking at these coins for sale only and found 1 oz rounds of triple the value only. Yet this is the one I want to have for him, so I added it to my wish list and we'll see in the future, I may bump onto it in a strange way, for a reasonable price.
Here's the info I found on Numista:
I bet once I find this one and add it to my collection, my youngest will want to take it into her possession as she's just as crazy about cats as he was, lol. We actually all are. But this one will be to honour my son.
In case you're one of the collectors who happens to have this one laying around and want to sell it, let me know, that's probably a very long shot but hey, it never hurts to ask, does it? :)
