Need for a better UI for blockchain games

in LeoFinancelast month

Most of the user interfaces of blockchain games are old-school and need a lot of modernizing. This may be because of the limitations we have with blockchain, but there are still many games that amaze us with excellent user interfaces. Sometimes, it can take a lot of time and money to create the best user interface, and it may not work out well if we don't have the necessary time and money. That can also be one of the reasons why blockchain interfaces need more attention.

Make complex blockchain concepts simple

A user interface not only helps in navigating throughout the game but also helps in simplifying some of the complicated blockchain concepts. The first thing we have to understand is that blockchain concepts are not as easy as they seem. They can be a little advanced for someone who is just getting started and has no idea about blockchain.

When better user interfaces are designed to make people navigate easily, they also gradually understand what needs to be done, and the blockchain knowledge that they need is slowly given to them. If we explain some of the blockchain concepts to people, it may sound complicated, but if they are represented with a better UI, they can slowly take their time to understand it.

Player onboarding

Every blockchain project or game has this problem. When it comes to onboarding players, they will have to first explain to the players about the keys and keeping the keys safe. If they lose the keys they lose their account and funds inside that account. Many blockchains scare the shit out of people while trying to explain this and this is complicated for anyone who is just getting started. People who are highly used to the web2 login can find the web3 login a bit challenging. But there is no other option than learning it and getting started.

Maybe an option of having an interactive onboarding mechanism might help people onboard easily and if the session with them is interactive, they should be able to create their accounts easily and get started.

Updates and feedback

If a user is doing some activity on the website, it is good to provide them updates and feedbacks wherever it is necessary. If a user is clicking on something and if it is supposed to complete some action, keeping the player informed when what happened is very important to make them feel informed. Instant information to the players on their actions is something that makes users not lose their patience.

Mobile first user interfaces

Today in the modern world we all rely so much on mobile interfaces. When we are designing something it is always better to check the mobile usability first. The website should work well on the mobile device first before working fine on desktop devices. This approach is called mobile first development approach. People find it easier to manage if they are provided with options to operate from their mobile devices instead of a desktop or laptop.

I think with web3 wallets it's a lot easier authentication comparing to password login (and stupid captcha sometimes).

Security is very important also and keeping keys safe can be tricky, that 100% true but it's worth it in my opinion.

About games UI, totally agree with you. Unfortunately even gameplay in many play2earn crypto games is 90s look and feel but most players are there for the tokens not the games and fun of playing.

A lot of people don’t like blockchain games because of the complexity but when they make things easy and simple, they will surely be more interested

Investing in a better UI for blockchain games is not just about aesthetics; it's about improving accessibility, enhancing user experience, facilitating education about blockchain technology, and ultimately driving the growth of the gaming ecosystem.

Devops who prioritize UI design can open doors to a broader audience and contribute significantly to the mainstream adoption of blockchain gaming.
