The Chola Empire was considered to be the golden age of kings in the History of kings in India, and that too, the period of the king Raja Raja and Rajendra Chola was the best among them. This is not because they built a giant temple that stands till today, but there is so much evidence available that describes their greatness. After the recent visit of our Indian Prime Minister Modi Ji to Gangai Konda Cholapuram, which was once the capital of the Chola Empire for about 250 years, the vibes have increased, and he has also promised to erect a statue of King Rajendra Chola.
The future generations who are going to come should know the culture and history. Today, we forget the rich culture and history, and that's one of the reasons why we end up inventing everything once again. These two statues that are going to be erected for King Raja Raja and his son King Rajendra Chola will make people remember the history and act as a pillar for our Indian History. This will be a big identity and pride for our nation.
Why sudden attention?
It has been 1000 years since the temple in Gangai Konda Cholapuram was built. The King Rajendra Chola, who built that temple, had reached till Ganges and won battles to bring the Ganga river to do abhishekam to Lord Brahadeeswarar. He built a temple and named his headquarters Gangai Konda Cholapuram, which means the place where Ganga was brought. Modi Ji, after hearing the greatness of this temple and the King wanted to visit the temple in person.
When he was coming, he brought Ganga water along with him and did an abhishekam to Lord Brahadeeswarar. Now that he has visited this temple, the place has become very popular and is known to many people across the world. Many people would start visiting this temple to seek blessings from the Lord and witness the architectural wonder of the temple. The temple is owned and maintained by the Archeological Survey of India.
There are so many great things about these kinds which has now been brought into the light by the prime minister. I'm very glad that I was able to attend this function in person and witness the arrangements made for his visit. The entire place was completely transformed, and the security measures were excellent. Now that the prime minister has visited this place and spoken about King Rajendra Chola, people have already started exploring the history to understand more about these kings and their contributions.
