Finally a Break in Bad Weather and we got to visit Altona Beach
This summer has been really bad in Melbourne and more so for the entire east coast of Australia which as been hit with flash flooding. Beach plans seemed like a distant dream for many as it has been constantly raining. Not the heavy kind just a constant drizzle although there have been a few down pours.
We were excited when the sun finally broke through and we seized the opportunity to make our long awaited trip to the beach even for as little as we could. We headed to Altona Beach which recently had an AUD 7 million dollar pier redeveloped complete with lights and a special section for people to jump off into the bay. (Melbourne has a bay and not the ocean).
We started with a lovely stroll along the new pier which was filled with people doing the same thing as us. As you might notice from the video Australia is very multicultural so you will see there were different cultural groups as well as some even singing in their native languages and enjoying the warm weather.
Then we found ourselves a place on the beach which felt great to finally have sand beneath our feet again and decided to go play in the sand dunes. For little bloke this is his first time being old enough to remember the beach. He’s almost 4 so is able to make sense of a lot more of his surroundings and withhold more memories.
The revamped beach also surprised us with sand volleyball setups that looked awesome to play and little miss even asked if we could come back and play or she could join. The sound of smacking volleyballs and the cheers of the people playing added to the atmosphere to the beach.
After working up an appetite from our beach activities, although I just stood their filming the kids making memories for them we couldn't resist the temptation of the nearby ice cream, what’s a trip to the beach without Ice Cream afterall?.
We opted for choc mint ice cream because, come on. It’s the best flavour!
Hopefully the rain eventually stops and we get to experience some form of summer these holidays as we are all beginning to feel a bit of cabin fever stuck at home and we hope that the rain stops as many Australian towns on the east coast are becoming flooded and lots of people are suffering through this summer period.
How has the weather been for you and your family this holiday period? Has it been as expected. I know for many around the world it is currently winter and you're probably snowed in. For us in Australia, this time of year is Summer and it is a time we all look forward to.
