Fun at the Beach (Eng/Esp)

English version

Sitting facing the beach, in a comfortable chair and in the shade provided by the awning of a store, I reflect on how I’ve enjoyed nature at different times in my life. It certainly all depends on one’s experiences, perspective, and level of maturity at that moment.

These thoughts came to me as I watched a group of teenagers playing in the sand and getting ready to hop onto an inflatable banana—in this case, the “Red Shark,” an inflatable red shark towed by a boat. The teenagers are looking for fun and an adrenaline rush, which is why they dare to climb onto this ride to zoom across the water at high speed, jump, and flip into the deep end of the beach—of course, all of this takes place under strict safety measures.

Life goes by so fast—it really is just a moment. I’ve been to many beaches and stayed out until dawn at some of them; I was even right here in Quetepe during Holy Week back when my only concern was drinking a beer to beat the heat. But a lot has changed since then; now I tend to value comfort and spending time with my family more.

Life is definitely a constant cycle, and now it’s my turn to be on this side of it—enjoying things more mindfully, settled in a wooden shack decorated with seashells and stones from the beach. I couldn’t help but think of my dad when we used to go to the beach; he’d sit in the shade with a radio in his hand and stay there peacefully until it was time to head back.
