August 17th is one of the most important dates in my country, which is the commemoration of the Republic of Indonesia's Independence Day, which is an annual celebration to commemorate Indonesia's independence. One of the most iconic traditions in this celebration is the pole climbing competition.
Hello, my friends.
Panjat pinang (areca palm climbing) is a tradition or competition usually held to celebrate Indonesian Independence Day on August 17th. In this competition, participants attempt to climb an areca palm tree trunk that has been smeared with oil or lubricant, making it slippery and difficult to climb.
So...
So, on this occasion, I'll share some images on this blog about the competition.
A few days ago, I witnessed the excitement of this competition while visiting a tourist destination.
HUT RI (Indonesian Republic Day) is an annual celebration commemorating the independence of my country, Indonesia, which occurs every August 17th.
Well...
A few days ago, I went to a tourist destination, and when the day arrived, this is what my city looked like.
It was a bright morning, with flags everywhere, each with its own symbol, like a carnival.
On this day, many competitions and traditions are featured in this annual carnival.
However, climbing the pole is one of the most famous. This is a tradition or competition that is usually and has become an icon held in celebration of Indonesian Independence Day.
My friends!!!
Climbing the pole is often held as part of Independence Day celebrations in villages or communities and serves as an opportunity to demonstrate physical strength, agility, and teamwork.
Furthermore, climbing the pole is also a form of entertainment for the community who watch and support the participants in competitions like the one we held in my sub-district.
The weather was very sunny that day, but that didn't dampen the enthusiasm of the crowd or the participants. Instead, it made us all even more excited to watch this annual event.
The areca nut trees planted by the committee were smeared with oil or lubricant to ease the fatigue of the participants. This helped them maintain their physical strength and foster a strong sense of teamwork.
The goal of climbing an areca nut tree is to reach a prize, usually hung at the top of the areca nut tree, as you can see in the image I've shared.
This prize can be money, valuables, or even just a symbol of victory to celebrate Indonesia's Independence Day.
My friends!!
The prizes for participants in this competition in my area are 5 million rupiah and several valuables such as fans, electronics, and even shopping vouchers.
These prizes will be divided equally among the teams formed at the start of the competition.
The atmosphere was so lively when one of the teams almost reached the top to win the race, but it was a bit unfortunate that the person at the bottom who was the root of the team's strength could not support the weight above them so they all fell and had to start again.
Finally, it was already late afternoon, so we decided not to watch the race until the end. Considering that several teams had already failed to reach the summit, we decided to leave the area to enjoy the beachside atmosphere and watch the sunset.
Okay, my friends.
Those are some pictures and a short post from me on this blog. I hope you all enjoyed and were entertained by what I shared. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all of you who took the time to stop by and read my blog.
Greetings everyone.
See you in my next blog.
