Jio and Airtel are the two most popular mobile service providers in India, or at least in Tamil Nadu. I once used Vodafone and switched to Airtel as it was very popular and affordable. Earlier, I was in a postpaid plan and there again I switched to a prepaid plan to save some money. Back then if we pay 399 for a monthly postpaid plan, we can get the same features for 84 days in a prepaid recharge plan. It was the best deal. But now they are pushing us more towards Postpaid as postpaid is cheaper compared to the prepaid plan.
I recently did a yearly recharge where I got a plan for 365 days with some limited data. It was the best deal. I mostly don't need data because I have Wifi wherever I go. But unfortunately the data got over and I wanted to do a topup with additional data. Earlier there were plans available that used to provide additional data that can be added to the existing validity itself. But they have now completely removed it. Both the service providers do not provide an option to buy data for existing validity.
I still have more than 6 months and all I can do is purchase additional data for a month or a maximum of 3 months in one of the service providers. The plan is very costly and it elevates the overall cost that I would be paying for a yearly plan. Now it makes me feel that I should have purchased a plan that has a daily data plan. But that much amount of data is too much for me since I have wifi everywhere. The only time I need additional data is when I'm travelling which is what happened in the last 2 months, and I drained out all the data.
5G is good but very costly
One good thing about True 5G is that it is now available in all the remote places. The villages are having towers nearby and is providing high speed 5G internet. This is a good thing, but unfortunately, after the proper 5G plan is launched, it can become costly. Currently the service providers are giving unlimited 5G free of cost. I understand that we are gradually moving towards having wireless high speed internet but at the same time, it should also be available at a good price that is affordable for everyone. Currently I'm doing some costly recharges for data. I just think that money spent on something else and don't worry too much about that. The future of data availability is good but I'm just worried about the cost part alone. They shouldn't do a vendor lock now and charge us so much of money in the future.
Overall I think 5G is very good and it is also a great revolution in taking the technology towards the next big step. They are also collaborating with Starlink and hope to bring more fortune to the internet service in India.
