Overthinker

Overthinking
Pairs perfectly with drinking
We've lost a couple of lives to it
Like men abandoning a sinking

Ship
Make quick work of it
They say that's how it goes
But ain't cha sick of guilt trips?

The life preserver left to float
Pulled in slowly note by note
That you threw in desperation
The water creeping up your throat

Overthinking
Sanity slowly shrinking
A moment just to break away
But you might as well be jinking

The chances
Of making grand advances
You won't be granted a moment's peace
To alleviate circumstances

Wishful thinking
The wiser man is winking
The one with the power
Over overthinking

This thinking cherub candle had been the inspiration for this poem for awhile -- how I desperately wish that I had taken a photo of him during his true form...

But the way that his head caved in and the wax rolled down his face as the flame burned... The perfect symbol for overthinking.

I haven't written a rhyming poem in awhile! 😅 Thankfully I wasn't too rusty; I really enjoyed the way this one turned out. Thank you so much for stopping by 👋
