Halfway through the company's ‘voluntary’ 5k that everyone who wanted to have a job on Monday had shown up to, Meera’s body was ready to revolt.
“We need to exercise!” gasped her lungs, “Regularly! Not just lifting the baby weights in the morning before this type of torture!”
“[Rhymes with truck] you!” wailed her calves. “When this is done, I'm never moving again!”
“Come on guys, don't fight!” jiggled her belly. “I think we can all agree we've let ourselves go. A little exercise and some dietary changes might do us all a world of good!”
“Ha!” laughed her taste buds mockingly. “As soon as this race is over and the nausea subsides, we're ordering the biggest, greasiest thing that can be delivered to our door and inhaling it. Just try and stop me.”
“No, don't!” cried her heart in a panic, “I'm about to explode here, and you're already plotting ways to destroy me if we get out of this alive! Do you get that? Do you even care? None of you can survive without me!”
“🎶🎵Far, very far from here, some…2000 miles away🎶🎵….” sang the brain, retreating to its happy place, lulled by the rhythm of one foot landing and then the next over and over and over.
As she crossed the finish line, dead last, her brain returned from its mini journey, and she muttered the words, “Next time, I'm staying home.”
