I have worked for this woman for over two years, but it has turned out that I didn’t do my due diligence before accepting the employment offer. A few weeks into my journey with her organisation, what started as a happy relationship turned sour. She detests every move I make to put things right.
However, I continue to put in more effort to please her. I go the extra mile to engage all stakeholders, share reports and updates on time. She sent out work plans and schedules without prompting, and I will carry out those instructions to the letter, yet she wasn’t pleased. Before I knew what was happening, she started micro-managing me. Before I arrived at the office, she would have sent emails about work schedules and demanded that I complete the tasks before leaving.
Sometimes she would make me stay very late at the office and would not compensate me for such extra hours. When I complain, she reminds me that she pays me for the job; therefore, I should not complain. It was from her that I first heard the proverb, “he who blows the piper dictates the tune.” I was denied my annual leave and had reckless deductions made from my salary.

Things continued to deteriorate, our relationship grew from bad to worse and then worst. I got a better offer after a few years with her and resigned.
