Diego has been the company night watchman for years now. He has been diligent with his work that in every close of financial year the management usually appreciate him with cash and other gift items. Throughout the five years he has been there there has not been any incident of stealing reported in the company.
That has been th case for years now but things took a downward turn few days ago when Diego unlike his usual self reported very late at work, that should be about three hours late. By the time he arrived the company's gate had been burgled. At first he could not believe his eyes. But when he came closer he realised that the gate was actually tampered with. He quickly dashed into the compound and surveyed the entire environment. He went to the machinery section and realized that the door too was tampered with. So he went in and saw that few machines were turned around. Their heavy duty batteries were made away with. He nodded his head. So that was their target, to steal batteries.
When the General Manager reported by 10:00AM Diego went to him and reported the theft incident. He told the manager that it was because the wife was sick and needed urgent attention that made him to report to work late. But it appears that the manager lacks sensitivity as he started blaming Diego for the theft. If only he had resumed his duties on time this would not have happened.
Diego tried so hard to explain his predicament but that fel on deaf ears. Finally the management resolved that Diego should pay for the stolen batteries. That will take six months of his salary! Diego swallowed hard to come to terms with this harsh decision. So all my selfless service to this company no longer count, he regurgitates within himself as he walked in towards the little office space given to him.
