Sometimes a simple white paper issued by the store where items or goods were purchased can save one from an ugly situation. This is especially so when the issue of payment and ownership of same comes into play.
Jane bought a few groceries at the city shopping mall. She paid with cash and the cashier confirmed same and issued her with a receipt confirming payment of all the items bought. Her goods were packed and handed over to her.
She mistakenly slipped the receipt into her hand bag and started walk away from the exit door. Unknown to her that the management has placed few guys at the gate who also confirm individual customers purchases using their receipts.
Upon getting at the exit door Jane was asked to present her receipt for the routine checks. She flipped open the paper bag containing the items bought and searched for the receipt but could not find it. She was asked to step aside and search for it very well.
Jane was a bit embarrassed by this approach as everyone was just guessing at her at that moment. It was then that she remembered that she had once slipped something into her handbag. She then opened it, raised her handkerchief and saw the rumpled paper. "Yeah, I've got the receipt" she exhaled. Feeling much relieved now she walked towards the checkers and handed it over to them. They ran the checks and handed it over to her.
As Jane gently walked away from the mall she told herself that she must keep the receipt handy each time she visits there for any purchase.
