Hello friends! Hamish and I had a good morning and took a walk to the post office together. That's his longest walk yet - two miles, about 3 1/4 km - and he did really well. He had a break in the middle with a little drink of water while I was mailing my package, but he was so interested in smelling all the new smells, he didn't really stop otherwise. I'm slowly figuring out where his limit is, since it takes more energy hopping on one leg in the back (if you haven't seen my other posts about my new dog Hamish, he's a tripod - he's missing his back right leg). Previously we had gone maybe a little over a mile, and he wanted a break near the end of that, but he did really well with a break at the mile mark this time and then going for another mile.
I also got the first two patches for his harness/vest. Yes, he is getting patches, too 😄
This was also his first time crossing Colorado Boulevard - one of the busiest roads in the whole state - and he was good on the way out because we happened to time it where traffic was stopped for the light already and we could cross right away, but on the way back we had to walk beside traffic for maybe 50 meters and he was DEFINITELY scared of the cars zooming by so fast, so close (40 mph/64 kph, with no buffer between traffic and the sidewalk). He was jumping and falling in fear, I was holding him close and trying to keep him on the inside, away from traffic. Being hit by a car is how he lost the leg, so if course that would be scary for him. I generally try to stay off the busy roads on our walks, but we had to cross this time to get to the post office.
The accident where he was hit happened in late February, and I adopted him late March, so that's still recent for him. He's a brave man though, he made it through. 💜
He much prefers the park to the stinky loud street
Anyway, I hope y'all are having a good day and thanks for reading! Don't forget I've got a contest going that finishes in a few days. It's an easy win of 1500 Ecency points and 5 HSBI just for doing something kind for the Earth, check it out! 🌎🌍🌏
