This past weekend I went home to visit my family. They live out in the country, in a very rural area in Texas. The roads are one lane and gravel. I always like the drive and the visit as it gets me away from all the towns and people.
The area has grown up since I lived there but as you can see not a house in sight as the nearest neighbor is still about a mile away.
This is summer so normally it would be very hot and dry with the road very dusty however they have been receiving rain which has kept the plants very green. It had rained the night before I had arrived and rained again the morning of the following day as well.
In this photo is a field of cotton which is just staring to bloom. It should be ready for harvest by the first part of September. On my drive there, I saw many, many fields of cotton and also some fields of corn which they were harvesting.

Due to the abundant rain, the grass was tall and very green. This surprised me since it is August and usually the grass is dead and dried up at this time of year in this part of the country. I am very happy they were able to get these rains as it will help grow the hay to feed the cows.

It had only rained about 1/2 inch that morning but as you can see the water is in puddles. This is because of the other rains they had been receiving which had saturated the ground and with the growth of grass, the ditch was full and the water had no where to run.

I always enjoy my visits to the country as the air is fresher and the sky clearer from all the smog of the city.
