The Reflection

I haven't taken the time to understand this thing called "stereotype." Thanks to the Hive Learners community for bringing this to my attention and enabling me to study more about it. Going through the definition of "stereotype," I didn't see the originator's name, though.

Maybe someone just came up and assumed certain things and attached them to everyone. Recently, I was conversing with someone when the conversation took a different turn and we started talking about the different tribes in Nigeria and what the tribes are known for. After the conversation ended, I realized that different tribes in my nation are known for something, and I believe that has to do with stereotypes.

There is this popular stereotype about girls that has been flying about. So far, I've noticed that people think every girl likes pink, and they can go extremely crazy about that color. There is this particular celebrity I know people from my part of the world would know better.

This particular person is a daughter of one of the richest men in Nigeria, when you are counting the top richest men, his name would fall in between, but I don't know the number, it will be though, but then I know he is very popular due to his resources. And then his daughter, who is a deejay, "I know people would know this one," she is a lover of pink. I can remember going through her page on social media when I came across a video of her apartment, you won't believe what my eyes saw.

The apartment was decorated with the color "pink" I mean every furniture inside the apartment is pink. Deep down, I thought the kitchen would be different because who would possess the strength of getting pink kitchen appliances? But then to my greatest surprise, I was wrong "very wrong" when she entered the kitchen "my eyes became wide open" everything in the kitchen was pink as well.

At that moment, I realized the popular phrase that "few are normal in my nation," then I knew I was among the few because seeing that setting alone made me realize that I wasn't normal.

So most people feel like every young girl's favorite color is pink, and often when people ask me about my favourite, and when I answer, they'd be like "are you serious?" and yes, I'm very serious. Because my favourite color is "black" and not every girl's favourite, maybe you can call me another name that doesn't sound like a female.

I don't know what people would think of me decorating my house in black? What would people see me as? These thoughts kept reflecting in my head whenever I try to carry out that act of mine without people thinking otherwise.

Who cares about what people think, but then it's gonna attract attention to the way people view me, especially people from my part of the world. Imagine someone visits me and my house is covered in black because I love the color. I don't believe in the thing stereotype, I feel like people are humans, and what makes us human is the fact that we are different when it comes to our tastes and opinions.

Thanks for reading 🧡

Don't t think of painting your house black, haba i will think you are weird like cuppy. Cause what in Gods name will make you paint your house that color, what of in the night, how will your house look like

Cuppy is very weird though.

LoL, most people think pink is for girls. It's so normalized that if you mention pink by mistake in a gathering, some people will think you want to talk about girls 😂

It's not nice to conclude something because it's seen that way by people, we vary from one another.

I remember a time, someone challenged me on Hive for Saying "playing games is a girlie thing." I repented instantly because she put a lot of sense into my head.

Playing games, but then it depends on the kind of game, though.

What kind of game was it?
