There are so many times when my mum asks me what I want to do for a living and sometimes when I’m being playful, I tell her I don’t want to work. If it is possible, I’m surely going to do it but there is no way I’d survive and I don’t have any generational wealth that I rely on.
Presently, I have a job I’m doing. I have a mini mart that I run and I’m very lucky to have so much sales everyday. The sales is enough to ginger me so that I can keep going to the shop even though that’s not the exact thing I would love to do with my life.
The benefit of my current place of work.
One major benefit of where I’m working at the moment is that I can open and close whenever I like. There is no boss I’m serving or someone who would tell me what to do and what not to do.
Well, I run this business with my sister but we own it together and there is no boss here.
We may decide to go to work and we may even decide to sleep at home even though we don’t do that because we’ve got goals and it is possible for us to turn it to a big supermarket someday.
What is making this place a bit more enjoyable for me?
The fact that I can take decisions whenever I like is making it more enjoyable. It feels good to work under someone too so you can learn but I have learned this business from my mum’s shop for thirteen good years before having mine.
Also, I cook in my shop, I sleep when I want to, I close when I want to or can even do whatever I like. It is very interesting and enjoyable to be your own boss and not working under anyone or feeling such pressure.
What’s that one thing that can make me quit this job?
It’s my work and I don’t think I ever want to quit this job because the plan is to turn it to a supermarket. I’m an aspiring entertainer and that does not stop me from having a supermarket. I may decide to build a rival of ShopRite someday.
Well, something may sometimes get tiring due to one thing or the other. If there is any reason for stopping this work I’m doing at the moment, it means that my profit is becoming lesser everyday.
If you are very much familiar with grocery business, you’d know that it doesn’t really have much gain. It’s just like earning fifty naira when you sell a carton of biscuits and truly, that’s how it is. I’m lucky because I may sell more than fifty cartons a day and even sell some other things.
Now, if the profit is becoming too little, I’d be forced to quit because I’ve got bills to pay. I have to pay for the shop rent and so much more so if the profit rate is reduced, I’m surely going to quit.
For now, I love my job and I’m glad I learned it from my mum. It may be an eternity business but we never can tell how it will go.
I wish myself well.
