Once a promising country, my country has turned to be one where is citizens take it as a place they don't want to be in, as everyone is looking for one way or the other to escape abroad.

The country's blessings is really huge. Coal, minerals and man other natural resources are in the country. However, due to mismanagement, instead of being a prosperous country, it is declining as the day goes by.

Due to this, citizens are forced into carrying out duties for the county, before being eligible to travel out. This is mostly seen within the nursing profession.

There are many mandatory services imposed in the citizens by the government of this country. One of it is the NYSC.

During this service, a graduate serves his country for one year. The graduate registers fr NYSC, and then, they are posted to different parts of the country. Initially, the pay was small, but I heard that the pay was recently increased to a handsome amount.

I don't really know much about NYSC because I didn't go though a university.
Though university offers nursing as a course, I went through a college of nursing.

Before now, nurses could fly out of the country in hopes for a greener pastures. However, the advent of a new government brought in new policy that is aimed at caging nurses in the county for 2 years, before being eligible to travel outside the country.

This policy states that, a nurse will not be eligible to travel out of the country, until they have worked for at least two years in the country.

Personally, I like this policy, and at the same time, I hate it.

I love it in the sense that, it will help build the nation in terms of health practitioners.
Our nurse who are eager to travel out, will be have to put in their works for he country first, before being eligible to practice outside. It is a very good policy, but then, at the same time it is bad.

We live in a country where everything is hard. The cost of living is rapidly increasing over time. No hope of any betterment in the nearest future. Goods that was sold at ten naira last year, is currently selling at a price of fifty naira at at the time of making this post.

The price of foodstuffs are increasing every day. Goods an services are on high prices but the salary of a nurse in Nigeria is still not increasing.

Irrespective of the hectic work we do, the salary of a nurse is barely enough t sustain us throughout the month.
Transportation from our house to the hospital takes almost half of the salary.

Even at this, our salary is not raised, and they still want us to survive in such harsh conditions for two years.

Based on this, my thoughts is that this policy should be scrapped out.
Keeping people here without a good pay, which should serve as a motivation for them serve the country whole heartedly.

If I have the power to decide, I retain the policy. I may even increase it to three years but, the pay will be worth it, making sure that every nurse put on a genuine smile in their face while they serve their beautiful and prosperous country.

This is my entry for the hive learners prompt.

Thank you for reading 😊
