Charity is a value that gives more satisfaction to the giver than to the receiver, but it's fair to say that this is only a small part of reality.
The so-called third sector encompasses all kinds of associations and organizations that theoretically don't seek profit but rather public benefit, especially for the less fortunate.
But often reality shows us that these organizations don't really do much to change the problems they're trying to solve.
I happened to work in two Non-Governmental Organizations years ago, and I saw firsthand while working in administration that most of their budgets were allocated to excessively generous salaries and allowances, high-end vehicles and computer equipment, protocol expenses such as events and expensive catering services, and what they called visibility, which was almost always t-shirts, planners, calendars and the like.
For the activities actually necessary to achieve the project objectives, a tiny portion of the budget remained, which was financed with donor funds.
So based on my experience and the results we see in the world, I consider that donations intended for cooperation and development are almost always obtained by organizations that simply wish to have a prestigious space where a privileged class "works" sometimes earning much more money than in the private and public sectors.
So, if the objective of an organization is to help people with scarce resources and thousands of needs, why are the salaries scandalously high... They should be equal to what would be earned in the private sector in any case.
That's why my theory is that since there aren't enough spaces for elites to occupy high positions in public office, "non-governmental" organizations were created such as the UN, UNDP, AECID and various agencies dedicated to cooperation and development at the international level.
At local levels, Foundations or Charitable Associations are also created where nobody works ad honorem; on the contrary, they usually have great benefits such as attending Congresses or Governance Meetings, to cite some examples.
Despite the multimillion-dollar funds for humanitarian aid, the same problems from decades ago continue to exist, without anything improving in proportion to the money invested.
To give two quick examples, in the case of the lack of potable water supply in certain regions of the world, a YouTuber like Mr Beast and a Blockchain like HIVE have done more by donating water wells in Africa than the large international cooperation agencies.
This leaves us with many doubts about whether organizations created for charitable purposes really want to solve problems or want to profit using those problems as an excuse to continue maintaining a lifestyle full of luxuries and excesses that in an era of hyper-connectivity and high-speed internet are not justified.
That's why I not only believe, but I'm sure that of all the funds allocated to altruistic or charitable causes, most are used to maintain a structure where a few can have good jobs and good salaries, and with luck a small part is left over to help the poor.
Ayudar no siempre es por caridad
La caridad es un valor que da más satisfacción a quien da que a quien recibe, pero es justo decir que esa es una pequeña parte de la realidad.
El llamado tercer sector nuclea a todo tipo de asociaciones y organizaciones que en teoría no buscan el lucro sino más bien el beneficio público en especial de las personas menos favorecidas.
Pero muchas veces la realidad nos demuestra que estas organizaciones no hacen realmente mucho para cambiar los problemas que intentan solucionar.
Me tocó trabajar en dos Organizaciones No Gubernamentales años atrás, y vi de primera mano al trabajar en administración que la mayor parte de sus presupuestos estaban destinados a salarios y viáticos excesivamente generosos, vehículos y equipos informáticos de alta gama, gastos protocolares como eventos y servicios de alimentación costosos y lo que llamaban visibilidad, que casi siempre eran remeras, agendas, calendarios y cosas por el estilo.
Para las actividades propiamente necesarias para lograr los objetivos de los proyectos quedaba una ínfima porción del presupuesto que era financiado con fondos de donantes.
Así que en base a mi experiencia y a los resultados que vemos en el mundo, considero que las donaciones destinadas a la cooperación y desarrollo, casi siempre son obtenidos por organismos que sencillamente desean tener un espacio de prestigio donde una clase privilegiada "trabaja" a veces cobrando mucho más dinero que en la función privada y pública.
Entonces, si el objetivo de una organización es ayudar a personas de escasos recursos y con miles de necesidades, por qué los salarios son escandalosamente altos... Deberían ser iguales a los que se percibiría en la función privada en todo caso.
Por eso mi teoría es que como no hay espacios suficientes para que las élites puedan ocupar altos cargos en la función pública, se crearon organismos "no gubernamentales" como la ONU, PNUD, AECID y distintas agencias destinadas a la cooperación y el desarrollo a nivel internacional.
A niveles locales también se crean Fundaciones o Asociaciones Benéficas donde nadie trabaja ad honorem, al contrario, suelen tener grandes beneficios como asistir a Congresos o Reuniones de Gobernanza , por citar algunos ejemplos.
A pesar de los multimillonarios fondos para ayuda humanitaria, siguen existiendo los mismos problemas de hace décadas, sin que nada mejore en la proporción al dinero invertido.
Por dar dos ejemplos rápidos, en el caso de la falta de suministro de agua potable en ciertas regiones del mundo, han hecho más un Youtuber como Mr Beast y una Blockchain como HIVE, donando pozos de agua en África que las grandes agencias internacionales de cooperación.
Esto nos deja muchas dudas sobre si realmente las organizaciones creadas con fines de caridad quieren solucionar problemas o quieren lucrar usando esos problemas como excusa para poder seguir manteniendo un estilo de vida lleno de lujos y excesos que en una época de hiper conectividad e internet de alta velocidad no se justifican.
Por eso no solo creo, si no que estoy segura que de todos los fondos destinados a causas altruistas o de caridad, la mayor parte se destina a mantener una estructura donde algunos cuántos pueden tener buenos trabajos y buenos salarios, y con suerte una pequeña parte sobre para ayudar a los pobres.
