Forgetting is a usual and normal thing that happens to a human being every once in a while.
As a matter of fact, before a day goes by, one would have likely forgotten one thing or the other. As a result, some people believe that forgetting is a very normal process of life and I agree.
Despite the frequency of forgetfulness, it does not usually cause problems or bother us except if something important is involved. Then, depending on the importance of what was forgotten, it could go on to haunt us for several hours, days or even years.
One very painful instance for me was a time I forgot my laptop charger in the village and started coming back to town.
It was a long holiday with an exam waiting for me at the end of it. I was studying with my laptop because it was easier to carry than to carry multiple textbooks around.
During the early days of the holiday, we travelled to the village for an event. We were meant to spend about 2 days so I travelled with my laptop and the charger.
At the end of our stay in the village, I parked my bags, forgetting the charger plugged in a socket. I did not realise this until the next day when I wanted to continue studying with my laptop.
At the time, going back to the village just for the charger was not an option and buying a new charger was equally not an option because of the cost implication. I could not afford it.
Then came the dilemma, what do I do? How do I survive without using my laptop to study. It was difficult and for a few days, I just did not know what to do or how to navigate the scenario.
One day while lamenting to my friend, she promised to waybill her own charger to me since we both use the exact same model of laptop and it was cheaper to send it than buying another one.
About two days after this discussion, she sent me her own charger and I was able to resume my studies. I was very grateful to her and till today, I am still indebted to her because I know how helpful it was to me.
After this incidence, I ensure that before travelling or leaving any environment, I go round at least twice and ensure that nothing is being forgotten.
On many instances I see that something was already forgotten at one corner of the house and I immediately pick it up and avoid a repeat of my ugly experience.
This new habit has saved not just me but my siblings and parents on countless occasions.
Also, some items are likely to be forgotten because of their usage or place of use, I set a reminder so as not to forget such items like towels, gas cylinder, etc.
This strategy has equally been of great help to me.
