I'm excited to be part of the participants for this week 140 edition 1 engagement. It's been a good time here and I enjoy everything happening in this prestigious community. Last week I tried to keep abreast with all the engagements but truly it wasn't easy because of the kind of program I was engrossed in. All attempts proved abortive concerning the edition three due to the stress hence I had to take a rest. Glory be to God for grace to be back again.
When I stumbled on the theme for this edition, I had to brainstorm in order to figure out what exactly I could write as my input. Generally, I am not too moved by sports anyway especially the contact sports like football, boxing, wrestling etc which involves individuals coming together. Sports are good and essential for everyone to engage but precautionary measure need to be put in place curtail things. Some sports I see today aren't good to be practiced due to the resultant effects it brings while others helps to build up an individual.
Since I was growing up, I had no passion for any sport not until I got to secondary school where I opted for tract event and a field event like badminton etc. I can remember vividly when I was participating in a tract event where we had a marathon race. I couldn't survive it in the seventh round. Since then, I stopped all that kind of sport. Later I found little relevance in badminton where I learnt it for a while then later withdrew.
I don't play football today because of the car accident I had while crossing the road in my teenage stage. I had a broken leg which caused me pain and agony. Since then, I completely lost my appetite for contact sports like football. Truth be told I preferred to analyze a game and send in my put than to play it. Currently, I like football and how is being played. The only challenge I normally have is when a player picks up an injury. This could ruin the entire career of such a player if care isn't taken. I can remember football players like Neymar Jr, Eden Hazard, and many others who left the football world today due to uncontrollable injuries. Had it been other measures and rules are put in place, that would have helped out to extend their life career in the game.
I think the current rules we have in football world aren't enough to provide a soft landing for all the players. Let's consider the English premier league for instance where Video Assistant Referee is used to officiate a match. There should be further regulations that need to be part of the system. I think aside from the VAR that is used, it's expedient that the judgment of the linemen should also be given topmost priority than relying on the computer alone.
I would suggest some of the faults caused by these players need to be properly penalized. Some contact like hitting someone's genital organs shouldn't be permitted at all. This could lead to death. Some of the assigned rules should be revisited and adjusted to reduce some evils displayed by some of these footballers. Other contact sports like boxing and wrestling are becoming scary for me to watch these days. Sometimes what is acted and video might not be practiced at home. There should be regulations to reduce the places and areas where you can throw your opponent too. Hitting somebody on a chair, or heavy table should be discouraged. It should be completely banned to all children especially less than ten years old.
