The other day, I was just scrolling through my phone, just checking the apps I had. Then, I saw some apps that I didn’t even remember downloading, talkless of using them. I had to pause and think about how long they have been there and why I never used them. It hit me that I probably downloaded these apps thinking I might use them, but now they were just sitting there, taking up space.
That got me thinking—I should clean up my phone and get rid of the apps I don’t use anymore. It’s funny how much stuff we hold onto without even realizing it.One of the first apps I noticed was Lingu Town. I downloaded it back in my 100-level second semester. There was this course, G.S.T. 110, where students had to choose between learning French or Arabic. I panicked a little, thinking it would be tough to pass, so I decided to download this language-learning app to help me out in case I picked French. The idea was to use it in my free time to learn the basics. But when I actually started going into the class, I ended up choosing Arabic instead of French, and guess what? It wasn't as hard as I imagined it would be.
I passed easily without the use of this app. Ever since then, Lingu Town has just been on my phone doing nothing. I didn’t even click on it once after downloading it. It was just there, taking up space. Then there was this app called Ella. I had no idea what it was or when I downloaded it. I was thinking maybe I can remember how this app got to my phone, but I couldn’t come up with anything. It was such a mystery. I didn’t even know what I was supposed to do, and I hadn’t used it at all. It was just one of those random apps you find on your phone and think, Why do I even have this? The last one that I still have on my phone was Smart Scan. When I first downloaded this app, I thought the app would be very useful for me. And the main reason why I downloaded this app was to use it to scan documents and keep them organized, especially for school.
I figured it would make things easier, saving me from looking around for scanners whenever I needed one. But the reality was, I hadn’t used it once for the past two years. Not a single time. It just sat there, waiting for me to scan something, but that never happened. Seeing all these apps made me realize how easy it is to gather things we don’t need, most especially when it comes to our phones. It’s like keeping disorderly things in our closet or drawer, thinking they might be needed one day, but that day never comes.
And instead of cleaning it out, we just let it sit there, taking up our space. But in reality, most of it just adds to the clutter. I hadn’t touched Lingu Town, Ella, or Smart Scan in years, and yet they were still there, occupying space like that old pair of shoes you never wear but can’t bring yourself to throw away.
It creates this invisible clutter that can make our lives feel more complicated than they need to be. All thanks to Hive, I finally got the push I needed to free my phone. It wasn’t just about freeing up space—it was about making my phone work better for me.
