The funny thing is, when we speak of the society, we often refer to it as an entity or geographical zone but it actually consist of people. The society as a term is not a living being but it lives and thrives through we humans which means whatever ill standards exist is due to the defective thinking of the majority of people that exist under the umbrella of the society.

If there is something evident about the congregation of humans, is that majority speaks the loudest but that doesn't make them the wisest. In a society such as ours we are experiencing tyranny of the majority.

For an individual to decide to fight and go against the standards set by the majority, it is a battle with lot of sacrifices because such individual would risk being abandoned and isolated by everyone, including people he/she holds dear. This is why most people prefer to follow societal standards, to follow the crowd.
