A mandatory monthly medical check-ups has its pros and cons

in Hive Learners7 days ago

A mandatory monthly medical checkup has its advantages and disadvantages but before I go into this, more than 90percent of Nigerians don't do monthly medical check-ups, some have the money but do not see the need for it, so it isn't just about the money aspect, it is just most people nonchalant attitude towards their health and the only time we take our health serious is when we are down.

Some people are even scared of doing certain tests because they are scared of the result, I know a certain guy who was promiscuous, you do not want to have your baby, friend, or sister close to him because there is no limit to his promiscuity..

He fell ill and was asked to do some tests including an Hiv test but this guy was so scared that he refused to do it, I guess he felt the result would be positive since he was not clean, it was when his condition became more serious that his family forced him into doing it and he was not even positive, it was his conscience playing trick on him... He was clean with all the tests and was only suffering from chronic typhoid which was treated and he became better.

People like him are doing everything possible to avoid check-ups or anything related to it. Even though the guy in my story was lucky, their case might not be the same and not testing yourself to know your status could lead to you infecting others unknowingly.

The advantage of a mandatory monthly medical check-up is it allows us to detect any health problem faster and find a solution to it, many people are sick but they don't care as long as they can still go out to work for their daily bread, it is when it becomes critical and they are bedridden that they start to get worried and find a way to treat themselves and by then, it is already serious and would cost them more.

The disadvantage of mandatory medical check-ups is the amount it would cost, the last time I went to the lab to run a test, I spent nothing less than 8,000 Naira for malaria and typhoid tests, now imagine having to do this test and others every month!... 80 percent Nigerians earn less than 50 000 Naira which is barely enough for feeding, not to talk of other bills like electricity, water and others, is it from the same amount they will use to pay the monthly medical check up, it can never work in my country.

People found a way to evade tax, some even figured out a way to evade electricity bills by tapping it directly from the pole, so they would always figure out a way to evade the monthly medical check up, moreover the government do not have our best interest at heart, so I do not think they are going to mandate monthly check up, the probability of them imposing a tax on us for breathing in free oxygen in Nigeia is higher than them coming up with a monthly mandatory check ups.

Sometimes, those tests we are trying so hard to avoid are what will save us in the long run. Having a mandatory check up every month would go a long way to helping the general population.

Monthly check-up no doubt is the best, but not to impose it. If the government will made it mandatory, then it should either be free or they give the people a comfortable life first.

You’re right.

My congrats

True talk government no send anybody at all they hust want to feel their pocket

may God help us

Amen

We says that health is wealth but most of us take our health lightly unless something serious happens to us. But at the same time I feel regular check up are only for rich people. Poor people can't afford it.

poor people can't and more than half the population is poor.

Wow! Excellent analysis. I love that aspect where you spoke about placing tax on the air we breath in Nigeria. Nigerian government would actually impose monthly health check-ups if and only if it would add to their extortion of the masses. It can never be out of love and care
Nice weite-up bro!👍

no way, they are selfish and corrupt.

Omo the government doesn’t care about us at all.
I’m sure so many people wish to do the medical check ups too but there is no money
People are not earning well so a medical check up will be the least thing to think about

it is not something to think about because the money we earn is not enough for such

That guy's spirit must have left his body the day the result will come out, he will just ask his family to read it out.😄

Aside the cost of running medical test which is something one should keep funds aside for, I feel the lab sometimes give us a fake results. Something that isn't for you, I might be wrong but I am speaking based on some resent happening.
So to be sure of the result you have to run another test somewhere else.
It nice reading from you.

Nice one! I like that observation.
