Orchid
Orchids are a family of monocotyledonous plants that are distinguished by the complexity of their flowers, being a plant species very appreciated in gardening. It is estimated that there are more than 25,000 species of orchids, not counting hybrids.
They are found in most parts of the world, except in regions with desert or polar climates, although they are especially abundant in the tropical zone, where most of the showiest species grow.
A short distance from my home is the Flor de Venezuela Cultural Center, more commonly known as Flor de Venezuela (Flower of Venezuela), one of the city's major tourist attractions, and which served, as I have related in previous posts, as the pavilion that represented Venezuela at Expo 2000 held in Hannover, Germany.
It is a metal structure consisting of 16 petals that open or close according to weather conditions, and its design was inspired by the orchid, the National Flower of Venezuela, and the tepuis, ancient rock formations located south of the country in the Amazon region.
This building was declared a monument and cultural heritage of the nation, and from the balcony of my apartment, I am fortunate to have a partial view of the complex, which is illuminated at night in purple, like the orchids, or other colors according to the season.
As I have described in previous posts, I process the original photographs using the editing tools offered in their free versions by the applications Picsart and Snapseed.
Las orquídeas son una familia de plantas monocotiledóneas que se distinguen por la complejidad de sus flores, siendo una especie vegetal muy apreciada en la jardinería. Se estima que existen más de 25.000 especies de orquídeas, sin contar los híbridos.
Se encuentran en la mayor parte del mundo, excepto en las regiones de clima desértico o polar, aunque son especialmente abundantes en la zona tropical, donde crecen la mayoría de las especies más vistosas.
A corta distancia de mi hogar, se encuentra el Centro Cultural Flor de Venezuela, más comúnmente conocido como Flor de Venezuela, uno de los mayores atractivos turísticos de la ciudad, y que sirvió, como he relatado en posts anteriores, como el pabellón que representó a Venezuela en la Expo 2000 realizada en Hannover, Alemania.
Es una estructura metálica que consta de 16 pétalos que se abren o cierran de acuerdo a las condiciones climáticas, y que su diseño estuvo inspirado en la orquídea, la Flor Nacional de Venezuela, y en los tepuyes, antiguas formaciones rocosas ubicadas al sur del país en la región amazónica.
Esta edificación fué declarada como monumento y patrimonio cultural de la nación, y desde el balcón de mi apartamento, tengo la fortuna de contar con una vista parcial del complejo, el cual se ilumina por las noches de color púrpura, como las orquídeas, o de otros colores de acuerdo a la temporada.
Como he descrito en posts anteriores, las fotografías originales las proceso haciendo uso de las herramientas de edición que ofrecen en sus versiones gratuitas las aplicaciones Picsart y Snapseed.
