The Kalesi market is one of the most happening spots in Antalya, it's one of the vibrant spots of the city which is filled with souvenir shops, handicrafts, traditional shops, pottery, leather goods and very fancy restaurants and pubs. I found Antalya overall a very fancy place and I even liked it more than Istanbul, the people here are friendly and warm whereas I missed feeling that in Istanbul. Kaleci is the old historic town, so the market here is also known as the Kalesi market. During the reign of Ottoman empire this was the central governance point of the city. While walking around the market we could see some of the ruins of the olden times and also the famous Hadrian gate which is a historic landmark in the city.
The most commonly found souvenirs are the Evil eye hangings, which will be practically every second shop. Everything looks so colorful here. We visited this market on our last day and were already time crunched so sadly could not spend much time here, except for the little time we could get for shopping. I would have preferred to spend more time here, probably dining out at one of the restaurants or pubs.
Over the years I have collected many Evil eyes, hubby was a regular traveler to turkey for work purpose so during every travel he would pick up some fancy ones, then some I have gifts, a few I bought during this travel and some I also bought from Oman. May be some day I will share all my evil eye's in one post, they are all of different forms.
As I kept browsing through, I clicked some pictures, this was all with pottery items, plates pots, cups, wall hangings and all of these stuff.
All the shops sold many different types of items, it was not just one thing that they sold.
These are all the magnets. Wherever I travel, I buy one magnet of the place and they are all placed on my fridge, my fridge is full now and almost no place, may be some day I can share that as well.
I wanted to buy one of these lamps but they are too fragile and then all through out I had to be very careful with the bags, so I avoided.
That's one of the Hotels in the place, looks an expensive one.
It's all so colorful and luring
The narrow streets of the market with both sides these local shops.
As I mentioned you also see some excavations walking through the market.
The market is vibrant and buzzing and a good place to hang out leisurely. I wished I had more time to spend here. We had limited time so we could really not spend time in any of the place leisurely. Hubby and Son were annoyed with this but then I had no idea about these places and my whole point was to cover up as many places as we could to see, so it was a tight itinerary. Anyways we could spend some time and see the place was a good part of the trip.
