My favourite canisters would be something durable, quirky and eye-catching, that seals coffee 100% effectively.
However, due to the nature of my present living space on a narrowboat, I have gone for these practical plastic containers. The reason is that, oftentimes the boat gets rocked and items fall off shelves.
If I'm honest though, I'd love to replace them with nicer ones, but it's just not a priority right now:)

I hope this Saturday goes very, very well and you can rest. Don't do like me, I'm working (but I'm escaping to have coffee and chat!😆).
So, these are my two coffee containers. The larger and more transparent one is kept in the cupboard, in the dark, although it is the prettier and more elegant one. By the way, it's time to refill it and I'm on that adventure because I want to try other brands. The small one is the one we always have on the counter, always at hand. There we put the consumption every two days or so.
That white container has been with me for about five years. I brought it from a friend's house because she was going to throw it away and I thought it was ideal for storing coffee in small portions to prevent it from oxidizing as much as possible.
I often buy freshly ground coffee, so this system has worked for me!
I'm going to get my cup!

Is this jar has a 'darken' glass, or its just my imagination?..
I am in love with such sort of glass (and mirrors), - I behave myself like a moth to a candle when I see a jar made of such 'darkened' slightly shiny amalgamated glass... especially if it has hexagonal shape. This is some kind of fetish for me, I don’t know why.

I usually buy coffee at a small store in the local market. It is freshly ground coffee and not always of the same quality, as it is not very standardized. Apart from that, I consume some commercial brands, almost always the same, but I must confess that having joined this community my appetite for adventure has been whetted, so I have started to look for a good coffee for every day, but different from the ones I usually buy. Thus, my container has been emptying!!!!

that is another side of this coin - handy production, I guess. to me it is a plus, a sign of analog rather than digital production. (Well, to some extension...) I prefer to support and vote for human hands rather then robotized production - even tho it means 'less stable standard'.

I agree. Human labor is valuable and we must take great care of it in an era in which everything tends to be standardized, mechanized, globalized, etc. However, coffee picked, roasted, ground and packaged by human hands can also offer standardization in its quality. What about coffee production in my local environment? Many producers have become careless with what they offer to the local market. Coffee in my country is expensive for the bulk of the population, which is very poor. Half a kilo of a good industrial coffee, produced in the country, can cost more than four dollars, and a coffee produced by artisans can cost three and less than three dollars. Paradoxical, isn't it? Because that artisan coffee should be more expensive. That is part of the economic distortion of our country. But the point is that, because of this, the coffee produced in this way has become in many cases an unpalatable coffee because, although where I buy it they usually take care of their product, from time to time I have bought coffee that is simply burnt, or that is so bad that they have added sugar to it.
When you stop very early for work and you aspire to wake up with your first cup of coffee sometimes you don't want those surprises.
Disproportions, that is. A humble label.
Here 1kg of coffee costs 11-16 USD at least.
Lesser packs and more 'branded' ones cost much more.
I'd be happy to obtain artisans-created coffee; one can assume that there would be some rivalry and competition between locals ... as usual - some would proved cheaper prices, some would aim at a better product... Heh. There is opinion that capitalism is evil -- but mankind havent invented anything better, at least that is the perspective we see from today.

I am of the same opinion, and I would only add some social counterweights. That discussion could be a long one. Just so as not to leave this little dialogue without feeling that I have failed to say something very important: I believe that my country has not known how to deal with its wealth (and has often been hindered, and not always from the great economic orbits of capitalism). Good coffee and excellent cocoa have been grown here since the 19th century. I would like to see by now many people producing based on these products. Prosperity of the production that is reverted in education and social welfare. I see a lot of poverty instead.
The good news is that there are many entrepreneurs doing interesting things.

They are practical reasons, in the end, like your decision to have plastic containers, because your domestic space does not support another solution that is more to your liking.
The large jar in my photo was bought by my daughter, and I find it beautiful and I love that I can store a whole kilo of coffee at once, but I have read that coffee must be preserved from light to avoid degrading its quality, so I keep it at the bottom of the cupboard.
The small jar is handy and takes up little space on my kitchen table. It closes very well and preserves the aroma and protects from light. It is a recycling action, I like that. Point against: it is plastic.

I know this to be true for other things such as natural oils, so I would not be surprised if it's the coffee case too. It sounds like a legitimate point.

No one can deny the versatility and practicality of plastic for so many things. I once kept my coffee in a reused plastic Toddy container, but I've evolved 😂 Wood is charming and durable; these "matrioshka pots" are kind of forgotten at home; they are durable, but not practical except for storing tea bags, as they don't seal tightly.

My husband and I are collectors of wooden boxes, so I know that he'd dig this set.
Now that I see it, it's like déjà vu. I've had so many things over the years, that sometimes I see something that jogs my memory 😍

Yeah, like today, where I'm moored, my boat sways dramatically every time another boater passes by. People do not slow down and tick over as they are supposed to. If I had glass ones they would have shattered a long time ago.

in case you are curiuos? yesterday I've read about one of the three greatest nuclear disasters in USSR; an explosion at the soviet nuclear submarine in Chazhma Bay (near Vladivostok) in 1985 occurred during a planned upgrade and repair works of its nuclear reactor. You have the right to laugh at this, yes... Everything was going smoothly, but during this operation (I’ll simplify the plot a little) a high-speed boat sailed along the bay, and the wave from its passage slightly rocked the submarine at that very short moment when the technicians were doing a certain operation, installing the rods... it could not tolerate even a minimal deviation - but due to the shock, the moderating rods were slightly bent, and due to that technicians could not put them in place, and due to that the reactor quickly overheated -> following the nuclear explosion. Everything was kept top-secret, this is actually a very tragic story. This is what sometimes happens when another ship passes you on the water. 😳

Plastic is more superior when it comes to high humidity conditions, like a life on the water etc. Right? When we obtained some gear for travelling, we got some plastic plates and cups and still keep them. In travelling conditions they are much more practical than glass / ceramic ones.
Plastic canisters are only good because it can't break. That's the number one deciding factor for me now.
There's little to no storage available, so if these fall off the shelf, then it's no problem :)
Plastic jars are very practical for spaces where things are not safe. I can imagine you buying ceramic jars all the time, it wouldn't be very good for security in your space.😬

No, the only way I'd buy ceramic jars is if I could glue them on a shelf. That would require me to have the shelves at an ideal height for easy access and refilling convenience.
Many things depend on others, so practicality is better. The important thing is to continue enjoying a delicious cup of coffee at any time.

Plastic is something that is very easily available and most close tightly. Glass would be ideal, but you would need to have a rubber band that closes the container completely.

In truth, with glass jars it is more complicated to store coffee. Plastic is better and without so many complications, in my house we have coffee in a plastic container and it has been around for many years with us.🤭

However, I think being close to nature outweighs my fear of the water though, as it's a complete package. I cannot think of a more pleasurable way to live and see stunning countryside all year round, regardless of the season.😍

However, I assure you that I am very afraid of water, once when I was young I was drowning, I didn't drown because they pulled me out by my hair, but I was almost dead, I think that left me traumatized, I can't imagine for a moment having to stay on a boat for more than a while!

Yes, it's a wonderful way to live. I get to see how observant and alert swans are, and how protective the parents are of the baby cygnets. They are beautiful elegant creatures, but it is advisable not to get too close as some of them can be aggressive.
This location is in the Southeast of the UK. However, I'm a continuous cruiser (along 2000 miles of English waterways), constantly moving to different locations. I have a new 'backyard' every few days, and sometimes daily. 😍

You could get those washable stickers that say coffee and have coffee beans to decorate the whole surface, and so you give a personal touch to your containers 😊☕💜...

I think they are still good since the seals are still tight, but if you fill like charging them is not a wrong idea.

but they are easy to access and take minimum of efforts to use (i.e. open/close operations). Ideal size for little storage of ground beans, too. MINIMALIZM, I would say.
