Turn your screen time into income

Many years ago, most of us, especially the aged, resented technology and our devices for how they were taking all our attention and time. In our era, the story is different. Most people now earn thousands of dollars with just their smartphones, and that’s also all thanks to that same technology.

Today, I’m just going to share something I told someone yesterday. I believe that about 99.9% of the youth have smartphones, and the smartest way to make use of your phone is to find a way to earn from it. There sure are so many ways, but I’ll share these two.

Let’s talk about videography/video editing. Videography is capturing moving images with a camera, and video editing is manipulating captured images or video footage into an engaging final result. In this age, almost every event is covered by videographers, and most content on social media are videos. And almost all these videos are edited by a video editor before being uploaded. So one of the skills to learn and earn from is video editing.

Video editing can be learned by exploring so many apps. So many. But as a beginner, I would suggest you stick to InShot and CapCut. It can be complicated in the beginning, but there’s nothing you won’t find on YouTube. So when you get stuck on certain tools, you can just rush to search what those tools do.

The second skill is graphic design. I believe everyone on Hive who has ever used Canva to design a thumbnail is actually a graphic designer because that’s what it’s all about. Currently, there are billions of businesses and activities ongoing online. And they all make sure to bring out flyers day by day for sales, events, pop-ups, and many more.

I’m yet to meet any business that doesn’t have a flyer, even the offline ones. As I said in the beginning, all you need is your phone and Canva. There are many apps you can actually learn from, but as a beginner, you can just start with Canva.

Let’s get to the second part of this post. After learning these skills, how do you make money from them? See, let’s be real. Every employer wants to work with someone who has a little experience. So the smart thing to do is to be doing these services for friends and loved ones at a lesser price in the beginning. Emphasis on at a lesser price(not for free), an amount that could cover your internet cost at least.

For instance, you can be the videographer for your neighbor’s birthday party and charge less. You can make the business flyers for a convenience store in your neighborhood and charge less. Slowly, you build yourself and have something in your wallet.

We’ve gotten to a point where high screen time is almost unavoidable. But then would you rather your high screen time be from you using your phone to earn money or just from you scrolling through social media all day? The choice is yours.
