My Entry to the POBPhotoContest - Neighborhood Walk [ENG/ESP]

“We live in a world that has narrowed into a neighborhood before it has broadened into a brotherhood.”

Lyndon B. Johnson

Neighborhood Walk

A neighborhood is a group of people living in or near the same building, street, place, city or territory, particularly if they share certain common socio-cultural characteristics.

I currently live in a building located a few meters from a busy avenue in the east of my city, so the term “neighborhood” as it is known in other countries may not apply literally in my case.

In the surrounding area there are other residential buildings, several educational institutes, three car dealerships, two of them used and one of new cars of Chinese origin, as well as some commercial premises, including a pizzeria and an Arabian food store.

There is also a large urban park within walking distance, which I go to frequently, when weather conditions allow me to do so, and walking a little further, there are two gas stations for the dispensing of fuel.

Some of the residential buildings located nearby have planters overlooking the avenue, and in one of them is planted a creeping daisy, a low shrub that is characterized by tiny flowers of an intense yellow color that is usually flowered much of the year, taking advantage of the mild climate of the tropics of the country where I live.

Even though the location of my building has great advantages in the sense that I can access different services on foot, I think that unfortunately the multiplicity of urban uses in the area does not allow the development of the sense of belonging or rootedness that existed in the neighborhood where I was born and where I spent my childhood and adolescence.

The person in charge of the upkeep of the green on the avenue is definitely doing a great job.
Thank you for sharing those amazing photos with the community.
I have noticed that similar places with the same standing in my country have a no camera sign to indicate that photo should not be taking in those areas. I am glad that there are not such signs in your area.

In Venezuela there are practically no restrictions on taking photos outdoors or in public spaces, not even inside commercial premises or restaurants.

That usually applies only in military installations and government offices, where if you get caught you can spend a long time in a dark and damp cell.

Thank you for your comment!
