A dry fountain in my neighborhood for POBPhotocontest

in Proof of Brain3 days ago

When someone mentions a neighborhood walk, like @friendlymoose did in this week's POBPhotocontest, a few locations pop into my mind.
The first one is the one where I live, streets and parks that I pass every day and from which I have published interesting details several times.
And the other places (or other locations), are all those neighboring places and towns that I reach often, every time I go to my neighbors for coffee on weekends.

So now I will share with you the pictures of a neighboring place, where I like to go for a short trip and a walk...

Sremski Karlovci, an important cultural and historical center of the Serbian people, is a town at the foot of Fruška Gora, whose streets I often walk through.

Some of the famous and important buildings date back to the 18th and 19th centuries, and the city itself has a turbulent history.
It was inhabited as early as the time of the Romans, at the beginning of the first millennium.
For the last 5 centuries, it was a very important place for the culture and progress of this part of Europe (especially Serbia) and some of the most important cultural institutions were located in it (and still are).

The building of the Orthodox seminary, which began its work in 1794, was founded by Metropolitan Stefan Stratimirović.
One of the central city streets bears his name.

In front of the building of the Orthodox seminary there is a beautiful square, with several very important cultural and historical monuments. but also a menu of essential restaurants or delicatessens.

Imagine the disappointment when, on a warm, clear and sunny day, I saw on the square in Sremski Karlovice that my favorite pastry shop had not yet opened for the season.

It doesn't matter, the season is open at the nearby winery, where I regularly stock up on Bermet wine Red mist.
On the same square is the Cathedral Church of St. Nicholas, built in 1758, as well as the much newer building of the Partriarchy (1892).

In front of the Church of St. Nicholas, the 4 Lions Fountain was built in 1799, marking the commissioning of the first sewage network in Sremski Karlovci.

Immediately nearby, on the opposite side of Branko Radicevic square, opposite the Orthodox seminary, is the Karlovac High School, the oldest Serbian high school, which began its work in 1791. The building that we see today was built a century later in 1891 and it still houses the oldest Serbian library with over 18,000 titles.

The gate of the gymnasium is almost always open for visitors, but due to the state of protests and blockades of schools and higher education institutions in Serbia in recent months (not the most massive protests in the history of Serbia), we found the gate locked.

The warm weather and sun prevented us from taking a long walk or staying in the church buildings in Sremski Karlovci, so we sat down in a nearby restaurant and refreshed ourselves with my favorite drink, Cocta.

After that, at the mobile cafe, we had coffee and sat on the benches of Branko Radicević Square, enjoying the sun and the beginning of spring.

It was a wonderful walk around the neighborhood, which I share with you.
