As the sun rises every day, it signifies the start of a new day or the start of something. Some of us start with what we already planned while some of us start our day by making new plans. But what most of us have in common is that we all make plans to live an easy life or attain financial independence to some extent. Most people refer to it as living the soft life.
We all look around us and see people building houses and driving cars and most of us wish we also have all these things. Even for those who are not materialistic, we still wish to be able to afford our basic needs without any problem.
Now to the question posed for this prompt;
Assuming you have the resources to get/do everything you want, is there anything that looks appealing that you would rather restrain yourself from having/doing?
If I have a lot of resources at my disposal, one thing I will never do is to always rush into buying the latest things.
I have always noticed this frenzy with some people in terms of things in vogue, be it the latest phone or the latest cars, etc, some people can get a newly launched phone which will cost a lot of money by the way, and within months if there is another phone that gets launched, you will see them rushing to get it even if their former phone is still "mint"condition. Some people even go as far as taking loans just to be seen as using the latest things.
I agree that money sometimes intoxicates and can make you do crazy things or even show off. I can't tell people how to spend their money but one thing I will never do no matter how appealing is to chase after getting things in vogue even if I have the means of getting it.
Another thing I can never do is go to parties and start spraying money everywhere. I really can't explain why this habit irks me a lot when I see people doing it. I mean why would you, because someone invited you to celebrate with them and you decide to show your love by spraying money in the air all in the name of spraying them money. Thus making it difficult for those who have to bend down and start picking it.
Some people even go as far as stoning their host with a bundle of cash just to let everyone know they have loads of money. What happens to you putting the money in an envelope and giving it to your host or rather sending it directly to their bank accounts? But well I guess some people thrive on the need to constantly show off and let people know that they have loads of money at their disposal.
One of the things I will do is to maintain my minimalist lifestyle. Being a minimalist does not equate to being stingy rather I see it as a means of getting or doing things that matter. In fact with lots of resources at my disposal, it will help me reach out to people more. Why would I chase after the latest things when I could rather use such resources in doing something that matters? There are lots of people around us who need the resources that some of us spend lavishly and the only way to help make the world a better place is to always show kindness to people all around the world.
