It is a pleasure to join this challenge, an excellent initiative of @hivecreatorsday. For the first day we are asked "Something that identifies your city", I immediately thought of the Castle San Antonio de la Eminencia, emblematic site of the city of Cumaná, which was declared a National Historic Monument in 1965.
Its enormous walls, blocks of limestone and sandstone, already eaten away by time, tell stories of the past. The four-pointed design responds to the cardinal axes, so from a strategic perspective it offers a look in all directions, this way you can see landings and invasions by enemy sides. This fortress also served as a prison for some political prisoners, as in the case of José Antonio Páez. You can still observe some cannons dating from the 17th century, of course, covered by saltpeter, but they represent an attraction worth admiring.
This place preserves that mysterious atmosphere of the passage from the Conquest to the Colony, walking along its walls is to connect with the local history. The majestic Sugar Loaf Mountain serves as a skirt to shelter this imposing fortification. From the heights an incredible view of the city can be appreciated. A silent and poetic look that transmits serenity. I could distinguish the Santa Inés church and beyond, on the horizon, the Gulf of Cariaco and the Araya Peninsula.
The Castle is a jewel of great value to the city. It has remained there since a very remote past, witness to the passage of time that destroys everything, symbolizing a part of our essence that remains clinging to a historical legacy.

Para el primer día se nos pide "Algo que identifique tu ciudad", de inmediato pensé en el Castillo San Antonio de la Eminencia, sitio emblemático de la ciudad de Cumaná, el cual fue declarado Monumento Histórico Nacional en el año 1965.
Sus enormes muros, bloques de caliza y arenisca, ya carcomidos por el tiempo, relatan historias pasadas. El diseño de cuatro puntas responde a los ejes cardinales, así que desde una perspectiva estratégica ofrece una mirada hacia todas las direcciones, de esta forma avistar desembarcos e invasiones por parte de bandos enemigos. Esta fortaleza también fungió como cárcel para algunos presos políticos, como en el caso de José Antonio Páez. Todavía se pueden observar algunos cañones que datan del siglo XVII, por supuesto, cubiertos por el salitre, pero que representan un atractivo digno de admirar.
Este lugar conserva esa atmósfera misteriosa, del paso de la Conquista a la Colonia, caminar por sus murallas es conectarse con la historia local. El majestuoso Cerro Pan de Azúcar sirve de falda para cobijar esta imponente fortificación. Desde las alturas se aprecia una vista increíble de la ciudad. Una mirada silenciosa y poética que transmite serenidad. Pude distinguir la iglesia Santa Inés y más allá, en el horizonte, el Golfo de Cariaco y la Península de Araya.
El Castillo es una joya de gran valor para la ciudad. Ha permanecido allí desde un pasado muy remoto, testigo del paso del tiempo que todo lo destruye, simbolizando una parte de nuestra esencia que permanece aferrada a un legado histórico.
