Today has been a beautiful day here in southern California. Not too hot, not too cold, just nice and sunny. There was a bit of an earthquake yesterday, which I didn't even feel. That happens a lot I find, unless it's big I don't really notice them. I wasn't real sure if I would post today because I didn't really have anything in mind. Then I did some digging and realized I have a nice Silver Strike token I haven't shared here on Hive yet.
Silver Strike tokens can be won by playing Silver Strike slot machines in casinos. They used to be almost everywhere but are a very scarce item anymore with just a few casino in Las Vegas who still have them. They are solid silver or brass, and playing the machines you weren't too likely to win. The casino never likes to lose money, so these are best collected second hand. eBay is a great place to find them these days!
Typically I like to collect these tokens from casinos that are defunct. It's like collecting part of Las Vegas history. Sometime back I bought a group of Treasure Island Hotel & Casino silver strike tokens off of eBay and got a really good deal. None were in pristine condition, but they were still cool. Some had the jolly roger (skull and cross bones, pirate flag) which was the old insignia which is really what prompted the buy. However, this one kind of has a sexy look which I've always liked. I've always liked the legs on this token, advertising the Tangerine Nightclub they once had at Treasure Island. It's about 0.6 Troy ounces of solid silver surrounded by a brass ring. That's really what I like best about it, the silver! These really are fun to collect but can become addictive, just an advance warning.

Although the casino isn't defunct this nightclub is most definitely only a memory. Once fashion shows were hosted there by stars like Michelle Rodriguez and Carmen Electra, but nothing lasts forever in Las Vegas. That could be said especially in the case of nightclubs. New ones are opened all the time and the old ones slowly die.
I never visited the Tangerine when it was open, and to be honest I've not been a nightclub kind of guy since I lived in Puerto Rico. Back in those days I mostly went to salsa/merengue nightclubs, those were fun days! I'm sure the Tangerine must have been a fun place back in it's early years. Did anyone here ever visit the the club?
