Hi Friends,

Every country will have it's own tales from history and we always keep remembering those tales as myths or mythological stories which our ancestors/parents keeps reminding us and those always remain as an inspiring tales for us and we continue to do what our parents told us by telling the same thing to our kids and it goes on as these mythological stories are the cornerstone for our life and history will always remember those.

India is also same in that and we have been always reminded of 2 epic mythologies we always get to know viz. The Ramayana and The Mahabharatha and I am gonna share One of those 2 in the form of The Ramayana

The Ramayana:

The Ramayana is all about the life of Lord Rama who is considered as One of the most worshipped gods in India and we do have a temple constructed in the holy lands of Ayodhya in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh.

Lord Rama is considered as Seventh avatar(descent) of Lord Vishnu, who is One of the principal deities of Hinduism and Lord Rama was the prince of Ayodhya in the Kingdom of Kosala.

Lord Rama when he reaches the age of marriage, he participates in a swayamvara (selecting the bride) by participating in string of the bow and eventually able to do that and in return gets to marry Sita, the daughter of King Janaka, the King of Mithila.

Rama had 3 brothers from 2 step mothers and One of them was Lakshmana who always use to be with Rama and other 2 brothers being Bharatha and Shatrugna. Bharatha's mother Kaikeyi always wanted her son to be the King of Ayodhya instead of Rama and insists Rama's father Dasharatha to send Rama on a exile for 14 years and her elder son Bharatha to be made the King.

Rama agrees to go on exile, but Lakshmana also follows him and Bharatha disagrees to become King and says he will wait for his elder brother to come back and to be the King thus putting waters on the desire of his mother and Sita also goes with Rama and Lakshmana.

Meeting with Ravana and the War:

When Rama and his wife and brother were spending their exile in the forests of Panchavati, they meet the wicked queen of Surpanakha who was the sister of the king of Lanka, Ravana and Surpanaka pleads Rama to marry her, but Rama politely refuses telling that he is already married to Sita and he can't marry her.

Inspite of telling this, Surpanaka persuades him to marry her and irritated by this, Lakshmana cuts her nose and that leads to the war between Rama and Ravana as Ravana takes Sita to his kingdom in Sri Lanka.

Rama in quest to reach Lanka, gets help from monkey King Sugreeva to build a road across southern sea what is known as Rama Setu so that, Rama and vanara sena (monkey kingdom) can sail across sea to reach Lanka.

This leads to war with King Ravana and it is said that it went for a long time and in the process, Lakshmana gets hurt badly, but is rescued by Hanuman, the great monkey and a big worshipper of Rama by bringing Sanjeevini herb from Mount Sanjeevini.

Dussehra:

The festival of Dussehra which we recently concluded here in India, is said to be the day when Rama kills king Ravana in order to bring back his wife and they eventually returns to Ayodhya and this is the main story of Ramayana.

And it is said that, the return of Rama to Ayodhya is celebrated by lighting diyas and is celebrated these days as Diwali which is about to be by this month end.

So, the Indian mythology is closely connected with the festivals we celebrate till now and Dussehra and Diwali signifies us following the footprints of Lord Rama and his life which itself is the theme of Ramayana.

And obviously, I am also impressed by this great myth/mythology as we continue to celebrate these festivals and I am sure, our kids, their kids and then next generation will continue to follow these mythologies as that is the toast of life and reasons for gettogether with family and friends and this ritual will continue forever.

Why I am writing about this myth?

Because I am participating in OctoberInLeo, the monthly prompts from @leogrowth and @leofinance team as announced through this blog which gives us an opportunity write on different topics and here is my response to day 16 with topic being The biggest myth that has influenced your life as we can see from below screenshot.

I would like to invite you to participate in these monthly prompts if you are not doing so already.

That's all guys, I am sure you will like this long story of my destiny with mythology and surely you will have your own, do you?
