Today I would like to share about a dish that I know many people don't know about specially for people not living in Asia. Do you know that not only the banana fruit can be eaten, it's heart can also be cooked as a viand.
My mother picked it just this morning, she know a lot of dishes that usually can just be found in our yard. And this is one of her specialty.
First she cleans them removing the sticks inside the heart, this are the banana fruit that were not able to mature.
After cleaning them, we soak it in hot water then squeeze it to remove the sticky sap. It will taste different if this process is not done.
After I squeezed and washed it, It's now ready to be cooked . My mother added a some garlic and ginger to make the dish more flavorful. To give it taste she used bagoong (anchovies) to give the saltiness and when it's nearly cooked she adds a little vinegar to give a small sour flavor.
It's is easily cooked since we soaked it already with hot water , after some mixing the the Ginisang Puso ng Saging is ready to serve.
For us Highlanders here in the Philippines a meal is not complete without some Chili, and even better if they are freshly picked.
So here is it our dinner, we will surely consume a lot of rice with this dish.
