As I mentioned in my earlier blogs, a road is being constructed along the pathway where I usually go for my walks. Yesterday, instead of taking the usual route, I decided to walk downhill, and that’s where I noticed this old car parked near the curve of the road.
जैसा कि मैंने अपने पहले के ब्लॉग्स में बताया था, मेरे रोज़ के वॉक वाले रास्ते पर सड़क बनाने का काम चल रहा है। कल मैंने अपनी सामान्य दिशा में जाने के बजाय नीचे की तरफ जाने का फैसला किया, और वहीं सड़क के मोड़ के पास मुझे यह पुरानी कार खड़ी दिखी।
It was a worn-out Maruti 800, a car that people here still talk about with a bit of nostalgia. I think they stopped making new ones years ago, but it used to be considered perfect for hilly areas because of its compact size and ability to handle narrow mountain roads easily. I don’t know much about cars myself, but I’ve often heard people praise this one for being reliable and practical in places like these.
वह एक पुरानी और काफी घिसी हुई मारुति 800 थी, एक ऐसी कार जिसके बारे में यहाँ के लोग आज भी थोड़ी पुरानी यादों के साथ बात करते हैं। मेरा मानना है कि इसकी नई गाड़ियाँ बननी कई साल पहले बंद हो गई थीं, लेकिन पहाड़ी इलाकों के लिए इसे कभी बहुत अच्छा माना जाता था क्योंकि इसका आकार छोटा था और यह संकरी पहाड़ी सड़कों पर आसानी से चल जाती थी। मुझे कारों के बारे में ज़्यादा जानकारी नहीं है, लेकिन मैंने अक्सर लोगों को इस कार की तारीफ करते सुना है कि यह ऐसी जगहों के लिए भरोसेमंद और काम की गाड़ी थी।
The car looked abandoned for the moment, almost blending into the surroundings. Its front bumper was missing, exposing the metal parts and machinery underneath. The body had dents and scratches, and the paint looked faded.
वह कार उस समय लगभग छोड़ी हुई सी लग रही थी, जैसे धीरे-धीरे आसपास के माहौल में घुल गई हो। उसका आगे का बंपर गायब था, जिससे नीचे के धातु वाले हिस्से और मशीनरी साफ दिखाई दे रहे थे। गाड़ी की बॉडी पर कई डेंट और खरोंचें थीं, और उसका पेंट भी समय के साथ फीका पड़ चुका था।
The windshield at the front was completely missing. One of the headlights was still there, while the front looked uneven and damaged overall.
आगे की विंडशील्ड पूरी तरह गायब थी। एक हेडलाइट अभी भी लगी हुई थी, जबकि सामने का हिस्सा कुल मिलाकर टेढ़ा-मेढ़ा और काफी खराब हालत में दिख रहा था।
Beside it, there was a large tarpaulin covering some materials, a detached truck carrier placed nearby, and an old drum. The whole setting had that temporary roadside-work feel to it.
उसके पास ही एक बड़ी तिरपाल पड़ी थी, जिसके नीचे कुछ सामान ढका हुआ था। पास में एक अलग किया हुआ ट्रक कैरियर और एक पुराना ड्रम भी रखा था। पूरा दृश्य ऐसा लग रहा था जैसे सड़क निर्माण के काम के दौरान अस्थायी तौर पर चीजें वहीं छोड़ दी गई हों।
Inside the car, I could see a few tools and instruments scattered around, the kind that are usually used during construction work. That made me think it probably belonged to someone involved in the road work happening nearby.
कार के अंदर कुछ औज़ार और सामान इधर-उधर रखे हुए दिखाई दे रहे थे, वैसे ही जैसे सड़क निर्माण के काम में इस्तेमाल किए जाते हैं। उसे देखकर मुझे लगा कि शायद यह गाड़ी वहीं पास में चल रहे सड़क के काम से जुड़े किसी व्यक्ति की होगी।
