As a very special event finishes once again, a #monomad challenge is a perfect way to sum it up.
A lizard, portraying an event? Well, for sure: a lizard, a frog, big psittacines, smaller ones, the biggest mammal and the tiniest of them; all of them would be suitable. And why?
Because ICARE was in town. Every two years, people from all over the world get together for a few days, and share what is being done nowadays to take better care of all the exotic species out there.
It's a very niche event, for sure, but also a much needed one; the information sharing is invaluable. And the social part is as good (or better!) than the scientific one. It was so great to see old friends again! Some of them I hadn't seen for almost six years!
And yes, all of these photos are of wild animals. But these are the kind of animals that vets that treat exotic species see on a daily basis... and it's a blessing to be able to treat them and see them up close.
Some of them are full of colours, while others wouldn't even need to be in monochromes; but they all look great in a photo, that's for sure!
Reptiles are especially fascinating, but they're normally also the ones we see less in a clinical setting, unless we're specifically working with those species. Nevertheless, they're by far the ones I like to encounter the most in the wild. Our scaly friends are so diverse and so awesome; even in my country, where there's not that big of a diversity of lizards and snakes and turtles.
There were people from places as far away as Taiwan! The kind of animals the colleagues working on tropical countries see is mind blowing.
As for me, at work or while walking in nature... I'm happy with whatever critter comes along; the more, the merrier! :)
